Construction and civil engineering

A cost estimate has been prepared for the Ninotsminda UGS facility (see figure 6-3) - based on in-house RAMB0LL data. An adjustment has been introduced to take into account an estimated price difference for work carried out in Europe and Georgia. Particularly, construction and civil engineering works are presumed relatively cheaper in Georgia (a factor of 0.5 to 0.6 has been applied in this case)10. The price level is year 2003.

MA may be used in roads, airfields and other trafficked areas for surface courses or binder courses. MA is primarily used for protection layers and inter-layers for bridges, tunnels and roughs. It should not be confused with MA for waterproofing purposes in the construction and civil engineering fields specified in CEN/TC 314-MA for waterproofing. 

Recent developments in the construction and civil engineering industry include the development of intelligent concrete with self-healing capability in Japan (249). Some of the systems are based on epoxy resins encapsulated in concrete which when triggered by cracks open and cure to repair the concrete. 

Some mortars or putties or mastics may be applied in thick coatings or blobs or zones, on rough substrates with a trowel or knife (Fig. 3). This is frequently used in construction and civil engineering. 

Uitilization of FGD gypsum in cement-based material is feasible. It is not only for environmental uses, but also in construction and civil engineering. The results contribute to a greater understanding of how to sustainably and beneficially manage various industrial wastes and byproducts and suggest that there are also several important environmental and economic benefits that can be realized.

Fosroc Expandite is one of the largest manufacturers of construction and civil engineering products in the world. 

Other than for automotive parts, applications for semiconductors, electronics, vibration damping for manufacturing machines, and industrial impact absorption devices are also possible. Commercialization in these areas is expected to occur in the near future and these areas may be greatly expanded. Applications in other areas, including robotics, home appliances and construction and civil engineering, are also being evaluated. 

Table 2 lists those applications for water-swelling rubbers in the construction market. Most of the sealants used for tunnel construction are made of water-swelling rubbers. Construction and civil engineers and sealing materials manufacturers have been working together to develop effective sealing materials. 

And there are many other recent developments, such as do-it-yourself adhesives and sealants, laminating adhesives for flexible packaging, reinforcements in construction and civil engineering, many agglomerations (composite boards, ete.), dental repair, repairs on metal parts, etc.

Besides borehole sealants for the oil industry, CBS may have other mining and civil engineering applications. These include reinforcement of mined out structures, water shut off, and underground and underwater construction, etc.
