Tailor-made

By employing this technique, the frequency range best suited for a particular material can be automatically estimated and utilized for inspection, without the need to employ a tailor-made transducer. Consequently, a single wide-band transducer can be used to get near-optimal inspection results for a wide range of materials. [Pg.95]

If it is known that a drug must bind to a particular spot on a particular protein or nucleotide, then a drug can be tailor-made to bind at that site. This is often modeled computationally using any of several different techniques. Traditionally, the primary way of determining what compounds would be tested computationally was provided by the researcher s understanding of molecular interactions. A second method is the brute force testing of large numbers of compounds from a database of available structures. [Pg.297]

The realization of sensitive bioanalytical methods for measuring dmg and metaboUte concentrations in plasma and other biological fluids (see Automatic INSTRUMENTATION BlosENSORs) and the development of biocompatible polymers that can be tailor made with a wide range of predictable physical properties (see Prosthetic and biomedical devices) have revolutionized the development of pharmaceuticals (qv). Such bioanalytical techniques permit the characterization of pharmacokinetics, ie, the fate of a dmg in the plasma and body as a function of time. The pharmacokinetics of a dmg encompass absorption from the physiological site, distribution to the various compartments of the body, metaboHsm (if any), and excretion from the body (ADME). Clearance is the rate of removal of a dmg from the body and is the sum of all rates of clearance including metaboHsm, elimination, and excretion. [Pg.224]

Structure—Property Relationships The modem approach to the development of new elastomers is to satisfy specific appHcation requirements. AcryUc elastomers are very powerhil in this respect, because they can be tailor-made to meet certain performance requirements. Even though the stmcture—property studies are proprietary knowledge of each acryUc elastomer manufacturer, some significant information can be found in the Hterature (18,41). Figure 3a shows the predicted according to GCT, and the volume swell in reference duid, ASTM No. 3 oil (42), related to each monomer composition. Figure 3b shows thermal aging resistance of acryHc elastomers as a function of backbone monomer composition. [Pg.476]

A more quantitative and lengthy method, but still very useful for checking of the type required here is the Smith-Brinkley method (Reference 5). It uses two sets of separation factors for the top and bottom parts of the column for a fractionator or reboiled absorber and one overall separation factor for a simple absorber. The method is tailor-made for analysis of a column design or a field installed column. The Smith-Brinkley method starts with the column parameters and calculates the resulting product compositions unlike other methods that require knowing the compositions to determine the required reflux. [Pg.218]

Christopher and Fox have given examples of the way in which polycarbonate resins may be tailor-made to suit specific requirements. Whereas the bis-phenol from o-cresol and acetone (bis-phenol C) yields a polymer of high hydrolytic stability and low transition temperature, the polymer from phenol and cyclohexanone has average hydrolytic stability but a high heat distortion temperature. By using a condensate of o-cresol and cyclohexanone a polymer may be obtained with both hydrolytic stability and a high heat distortion temperature. [Pg.582]

For the purpose of high-resolution fractionation, the gel medium must be tailor made to cope with different separation ranges. The Superdex family is designed for the high resolution of peptides and proteins having a molecular mass of 500 to 100,000. Also, Sephacryl media have found wide applicability as a final polishing step in process scale SEC (see Section III,C). [Pg.36]

In the design of tailor-made plant it is necessary to calculate the above as they occur within the plant and add the pressure drop of all other items such as air filters at their dirty conditions, coils, etc. In the case of proprietary units it is normal for the manufacturers to quote an external pressure against which they will deliver the specified air quantity. [Pg.445]

The micrographs in Fig. 7.88 show clearly how from a knowledge of the AG -concentration diagrams it is possible to select the exact reaction conditions for the production of tailor-made outermost surface phase layers of the most desired composition and thus of the optimum physical and chemical properties for a given system. In addition it shows that according to thermodynamics, there can be predictable differences in the composition of the same outermost phase layer prepared at the same conditions of temperature but under slightly different vapour pressures. [Pg.1139]

Typical frit and mill formulae are given in Table 16.1. Frits are tailor-made for each application so that the most desired properties are at their maximum in each case and thus the formulae presented must be regarded as examples of general composition. [Pg.735]

Polyolefin alloys Plascoat Systems Ltd. has developed a range of polyolefin alloys in its Performance Polymer Alloy (PPA) range. The exact compositions of these are secret. These products have been tailor-made to meet the needs of specific markets, e.g. [Pg.752]

There are some interesting examples of industrial cleaners based on alkanesulfonates other than in the I I segment. The wetting properties and the stability against hydrolysis make possible a broad spectrum of tailor-made products for neutral, alkaline, and acid media as well. Examples are the cleaning of trucks, busses, railway fuel cars, and airplanes (Table 31). [Pg.205]

The purpose of this paper is to thoroughly discuss the ability of anionic living polymerization methods to yield tailor-made polymers, and to discuss a number of examples of structures that have been obtained by these methods and adequately characterized. [Pg.147]
