Cushion layers

Other types of cell membrane interaction have also been examined. For example Wang et al. have used an electrochemical SPR sensor to monitor peroxidase enzyme activity within the plasma membrane [77]. As a means of improving stability and creating a closer approximation of a true cell membrane, interlayer structures between the lower phospholipid leaf and the solid supports have been tested. Cushion layers based on PEG to enable transmembrane protein insertion were tested by Munro et al. [78], while Schuster et al. have reviewed the use of S-layer proteins as a construction element [79, 80]. [Pg.150]

In the case outlined here, the processed and partly sorted cast parts are automatically unloaded from the crates. In order to avoid the cast parts damaging each other, they are stacked in the crates on cushioned layers (see Figure 39). [Pg.391]

The LbL technique is undoubtedly one of the best methods to incorporate biological components into man-made devices. Therefore, sensor applications must be one of the most promising subjects for LbL assemblies of biomaterials. For example, Leblanc and coworkers used several bilayers of chitosan and poly(thiophene-3-acetic acid) as cushion layers for stable enzyme films [187]. The first five bilayers of the cushion layer allowed for better adsorption of organophosphorus hydrolase than the corresponding adsorption on a quartz slide. The immobilized enzyme becomes more stable and can be used under harsher conditions. The assembled LbL films can be used for spectroscopic detection of paraoxon, an organophosphorus compound. This cushion layer strategy provides a well-defined substrate-independent interface for enzyme immobilization, in which the bioactivity of the enzyme is not compromised. This leads to fast detection of paraoxon and quick recovery times. [Pg.60]

The main polymer use in chip resistors relates to the encapsulation material which is frequently PA but may be Novolac epoxy or epoxy resin. Silicone rubber encapsulation, which provides a cushioning layer which isolates the resistive element from external stresses, and polymerised moisture protection layers are two other uses of polymers in resistors. Encapsulated resistor capacitor networks utilise epoxy/anhydride conformal body material. Conformal implies a coating of uniform thickness as would be obtained by a dipping process, for example. [Pg.39]

Crushers Installation in enclosed sound-insulated buildings, preferably below floor level. Open side of building facing away from adjacent residents, if possible. Receiving hopper for stone tipped from trucks to have rubber lining and, preferably, a "cushioning" layer of material kept permanently in it. Soundproofed control cab for operating personnel. [Pg.346]
