Coconut oil fatty acids

It is evident that, in order to obtain accurate results, the method of working must be clearly and minutely adhered to, especially so in view of the fact that the determination of ester by the method of steam distillation is a very valuable indication as to the purity of an oil, serving to detect the fraudulent addition to oils of such esters as diethyl succinate, triethyl citrate, and diethyl oxalate, the free acids of which are nonvolatile in steam. It will not detect glyceryl acetate, terpinyl acetate, nor the esters of coconut oil fatty acids. [Pg.319]

Near the surfactant region the crystalline or lamellar phase is found. This is the region one finds in hand soaps. The ordinary hand soap is mainly the salt of fatty acid (coconut oil fatty acids or mixtures [85%] plus water [15%] and some salts. X-ray analyses have shown that the crystalline structure consists of a layer of soap separated by a water layer (with salts). The hand soap is produced by extruding under high pressure. This process aligns the lamellar crystalline structure lengthwise. If the degree of expansion versus temperature is measured, the expansion will be found... [Pg.178]

Stomach continue at reduced levels in some species and individuals. These factors help explain why young animals use long-chain fatty acids less efficiently and have inspired the use of medium-chain coconut oil fatty acids in human and calf milk replacers. [Pg.2319]

The C12-C18 fatty acid fractions, approximately 85% of the coconut oil fatty acid composition, are the primary raw materials for detergent-grade fatty alcohols.
