Coating dibutyl sebacate

Plasticizers are used in the polymer industry to improve flexibility, workability, and general handling properties. Dibutyl sebacate and phthalates, such as dibutyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate, dicyclohexyl phthalate, butylbenzyl phthalate, and diphenyl-2-ethylhexyl phosphate, serve widely as plasticizers in vinylidene chloride copolymers, nitrocellulose-coated regenerated cellulose film, and cellulose acetate (Castle et ah, 1988a). In PVC, di(2-ethylhexyl)... [Pg.325]

The verapamil pellets contained equal parts of verapamil hydrochloride (Fermion) and lactose (Ph. Eur.) plus 4% of gelatin as a binder. They were coated using a fluidized bed technique (Aeromatic Strea 1, Aeromatic AG). The coat consisted of ethyl cellulose (Ethocel N-50), Hercules) and 20% of dibutyl sebacate (E. Merck) as a plasticizer. The calculated amount of coating in the pellets was 10%. The density of the verapamil pellets was 1.13. The in vitro dissolution pattern was determined according to the USP paddle method 50% of the drug was dissolved at 4.2 h. [Pg.126]

Other formulation parameters that may be used to modulate the release include the ratio (relative concentrations) of polymers in the case of incorporation of a mix of two or more polymers as primary coating material, the properties of the core material, and the amount of plasticizers used, which affects the strength of the coat. Plasticizers with low water solubility such as dibutyl sebacate, diethyl phthalate, tri-acetin, triethyl citrate, and acetylated monoglyceride result in delaying... [Pg.151]

Dibutyl sebacate is used in oral pharmaceutical formulations as a plasticizer for film coatings on tablets, beads, and granules, at concentrations of 10-30% by weight of polymer. It is also used as a plasticizer in controlled-release tablets and microcapsule preparations. [Pg.236]

For spray coating, polymer solutions and dispersions should be diluted with suitable solvents. Some products need the addition of a plasticizer such as dibutyl sebacate, dibutyl phthalate, glyceryl triacetate, or polyethylene glycol. Different types of plasticizer may be mixed to optimize the polymer properties for special requirements. [Pg.559]

Surelease. a product of Colorcon. is produced by first melt extruding ethylcellulose with oleic acid and dibutyl sebacate (DBS) (or fractionated coconut oil) to form a molten plasticized polymeric blend. This molten blend of plasticized ethylcellulose is then introduced into an ammoniated water solution under high shear and pressure to disperse small droplets of plasticized ethylcellulose into the water phase (67). Ammonium oleate is produced in situ during this emulsification process to stabilize the colloidal ethylcellulose particles (67). Additional purified water is then added to reduce the final solids content of the pseudolatex dispersion to 25%. The Surelease coating system does not contain an ionic surfactant, and therefore does not exhibit the pH-dependent drug relea.se observed with Aquacoat ECD (66),... [Pg.395]

The patterns were similar with pellets containing the antihistamine phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride coated using an EC-based latex plasticized with varying amounts of dibutyl sebacate [146], The release rate was shown to be highly dependent on the osmotic pressure difference, with some contribution of the diffusion. Pores of 2 pm in diameter were visible, which is consistent with the osmotic pumping mechanism. [Pg.251]
