Sprayed coatings

aluminum, nickel alloys, cobalt alloys and tungsten carbide are applied for sprayed coatings, which are slightly porous. Flame-sprayed zinc coatings are used for corrosion protection of steel and provide similar properties for galvanized coatings. [Pg.99]

Argon, helium, and their mixtures with other gases are used as the working fluids in plasma arc devices for producing plasma jets with temperatures in excess of 50,000 K. These devices are used for cutting metals and for spray coating of refractory alloys and ceramics (qv) (see Plasma technology). [Pg.15]

Ziac foil coated with a conductive, pressure-sensitive adhesive is used for repair of other ziac coatings or for imparting corrosion resistance at field sites. The 0.08-mm ziac tape or sheet has a 0.025-mm coaductive adhesive. The laminate is cut to size and pressed tightly to activate the adhesive. Conductive tape can be wrapped around pipe, especially around welds or connections. The corrosion resistance of this material is iatermediate between galvanized or thermally sprayed coatings and zinc-filled paints (21,50). [Pg.137]

Water Dispersions. Polysulftde products are offered as aqueous dispersions (Thiokol WD-6). These are useful for applyiag protective coatings to line fuel tanks, and for concrete, wood, and ia some cases fabrics, felt, leather (qv), and paper (qv). It has been found that a stable emulsion can be made that contains both LP and manganese oxide curing agent. The emulsion can be thinned and appHed as a spray coating. After it is appHed, water evaporates and the LP cures to form a soHd mbber (13). [Pg.459]

Newer high velocity thermal spray coating processes produce coatings in compression rather than tension because of the shot peening effect of the supersonic particles on impact. This has permitted coating as thick as 12,500 p.m without delamination as compared to older processes limited to 1,250 p.m. The reduced residence time of particles at temperature minimises decomposition of carbides present in conventional d-c plasma. This improves wear and hardness (qv) properties. [Pg.41]

Biomedical. Heart-valve parts are fabricated from pyrolytic carbon, which is compatible with living tissue. Such parts are produced by high temperature pyrolysis of gases such as methane. Other potential biomedical apphcations are dental implants and other prostheses where a seal between the implant and the living biological surface is essential. Plasma and arc-wire sprayed coatings are used on prosthetic devices, eg, hip implants, to achieve better bone/tissue attachments (see Prosthetic and BiOLffiDiCALdevices). [Pg.51]

Loose asbestos fibers, or formulations containing asbestos fibers for spray coatings, have been widely used in the building industry for fire protection and heat or sound insulation. Such applications used mainly chrysotile or amosite but, because of health concerns, this practice has been discontinued. [Pg.354]

The expander turbine is designed to minimize the erosive effect of the catalyst particles stiU remaining in the flue gas. The design ensures a uniform distribution of the catalyst particles around the 360° aimulus of the flow path, optimizes the gas flow through both the stationary and rotary blades, and uses modem plasma and flame-spray coatings of the rotor and starter blades for further erosion protection (67). [Pg.219]

Low viscosity cellulose propionate butyrate esters containing 3—5% butyryl, 40—50% propionyl, and 2—3% hydroxyl groups have excellent compatibihty with oil-modified alkyd resins (qv) and are used in wood furniture coatings (155). Acetate butyrate esters have been used in such varied apphcations as hot-melt adhesive formulations (156), electrostatically spray-coated powders for fusible, non-cratering coatings on metal surfaces (157—159), contact lenses (qv) with improved oxygen permeabiUty and excellent wear characteristics (160—162), and as reverse-osmosis membranes for desalination of water (163). [Pg.260]

Electrostatic Spray Coating. Electrostatic spray coating is the most widely utilized method for the appHcation of powder coatings (see... [Pg.323]
