Car Polish

SF96 (350) Carbopol 681-X1 Dleic Acid Kerosene Mi neral Spi rits [Pg.336]

Mix water, triethanolamine, wax emulsion and morpholine until homogeneous. [Pg.336]

Mix Carbopol 681-X1 in SF 96 (350). Add oleic acid, kerosene and mineral spirits. Mix. Add this mixture to the water phase i n Step 1. [Pg.336]

Mix isopropanol, mineral spirits, SF1706 and SF1705 until homogeneous. Add to above. Mix. [Pg.336]

In addition to thickening. Carbopol resins impart yield value allowing particles, such as abrasives, to become permanently suspended. The resin also prevents creaming or phase separation by suspending and separating the oil droplets. [Pg.180]

Oleic Acid Kerosene Mineral Spirits DI Water [Pg.180]

Brookfield Viscosity (RVT-20 rpm) 3,200 cps Product pH 8-9 Product Clarity Opaque Raw Material Suppliers  [Pg.180]

In a separate vessel, mix the silicone fluid, oleic acid, kerosene and the mineral spirits together. Add this to the above mixture with vigorous agitation. [Pg.180]

In a separate vessel, disperse 0.30 parts of Carbopol into 19.70 parts of water by simply dumping it in. The polymer will wet out in a few minutes. Add this dispersion to the above mixture. Mix until homogeneous. [Pg.180]

Car polishes can be solid, semisolid, or liquid. They can be solvent-based or emulsions. In either case, liquid and solid forms are possible. Compilations of suggested formulas are given in References 3, 12, and 44. A representative liquid emulsion product may contain 10—15 wt % abrasive,... [Pg.210]

According to U.S. Census Data, the value of polishing preparations and related products shipped from U.S. factories in 1987 was 798 million in factory sales, a 23% increase from 1982 (67). These sales included 155.3 million in furniture polish, 245.2 million in floor polish, 185.1 million in automotive polish, 81.1 million in metal polish, and 42.8 million in shoe polish. Industry estimates for retail sales as of 1994 involving furniture polish were that this category remained flat at 197 million (68). Retail shoe polish sales remained constant at 200 million household floor polish sales declined about 7% in 1993, whereas institutional floor wax and polish sales have grown at an annual rate of 2—2.5% to 370 million (69). In 1992 and 1993, automotive polish sales increased about 40% a year with the advent of colored car polishes to 240 million, but were flat in 1994. [Pg.211]

The compound C8F17CH2CH20 Ti(0-/-C3H7)3 is useful in car polishes to impart water repellency (145). [Pg.150]

How I got into surface chemistry is a curious story, for I never expected to do it. What happened was the result of a decision by the Simonize Company, a company that made wax products including what used to be the most famous car polish. Nowadays automobile finishes are so good that they don t need regular waxing. That was not true when I was young. When the Simonize directors decided they wanted to learn more about what their wax films were like, they went to my father, who was a distinguished surface chemist. It turned out that the standard techniques of surface chemistry were not up to the job of measuring the properties... [Pg.68]

Silicone chemists create structures similar to those of the silicates by adding various reactants to create silicone chains, sheets, and frameworks. Chains are oily liquids used as lubricants and as components of car polish and makeup. Sheets are components of gaskets, space suits, and contact lenses. Frameworks find uses as laminates on circuit boards, in nonstick cookware, and in artificial skin and bone. [Pg.437]

The mould is first cleaned and a few coats of wax release agent applied (similar to car polish). A thickened resin, containing the required coloured pigment and known as a gelcoat , is applied to the surface of the mould.
