On November 14, 2001, their report announced a restructuring process of the Company s Scientific Advisory Board, replacing members with scientists and physicians with experience in cancer, production of therapeutic proteins, preclinical development and clinical trials. That indication for a new orientation and focus to the health sector did not last enough, and soon after, the company disappeared from the SEC (and any other financial) listing. 

There was the rearmament. Then there were the country-to-country robberies, charged as separate crimes. Property is the wherewithal by which, with private or pubhc enterprise, a community sustains the life of its citizens. While we had proved the harm done the individual owners, our main purpose was to emphasize the exploitation of the conquered country s economies and the plunder of their industries. Then the cancerous production necessities of an ever-growing military machine, and the sheer lawlessness bred by the whole program of conquest, reached their pinnacle in enslavement, torture, and murder. 

Isolator technology is required especially when processing toxic or anti-cancer products and where the operator and his environment must be protected. An automatic loading and unloading system installed in an isolator system can be CIP cleaned and can be sterilized with vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP) (Figure 2.74.1). 

Erythropoietin has remained the best-selling human medicine for the past 3 years, followed by Lipitor (Atorvastatin), and both of these had over 12 billion in sales [20-22]. The sales of erythropoietin in Japan were over 1 billion. Tumor necrosis factor inhibitors, interferons, and insulins with, respectively, sales of 8.6 billion, 7.3 billion, and 6.5 billion in 2005 were the third, fourth, and fifth bestselling products after EPO and Lipitor (Table 1.5-8) [20-22, 24, 25]. The time taken to reach 1 billion annual sales for monoclonal antibodies has varied and was much faster for follow up and cancer products (Fig. 1.5-1). Rituxan is the leading antibody since 2003 by sales. The growth of Avastin and Erbitux has been much faster as compared to Herceptin and took only two years to reach 1 billion sales. 

Markets have developed very differently in different regions. In Europe, products aimed at improving gut health, particularly those containing probiotics, dominate the market. In the USA, there is much wider interest in anti-cancer products and the use of botanicals, while gut health products remain relatively undeveloped. The greater use of dietary supplements in the USA has also influenced market development, with increasing numbers of products being launched that straddle the line between dietary supplements and food products. 

In any case, I eventually recovered (and so did Jerry), but my immune system must have suffered serious damage, which manifested itself three years later, when I collapsed in my office one day and was found to be bleeding internally from a form of rare stomach cancer, which necessitated major surgery but was fortunately localized. I again recovered and have had no further difficulties since. Whether weakening and knocking out my immune system to overcome the previous problems had any effect is not clear, but it could have been a factor. Despite my health problems I was able to continue my work without much interruption, and the scientific productivity of my group has not...

Urethane [51-79-6] (ethyl carbamate) occurs as a natural by-product in fermented products such as wine, Hquors, yogurt, beer, bread, oHves, cheeses, and soy sauces. Whereas urethane has a known cancer etiology in experimental animals, no such relationship has yet been proven in humans (108,109). Alcohol may act by blocking the metaboHsm of urethane, and thus exert a protective effect in humans consuming alcohoHc beverages (110). 

Aromatic Hydrocarbons. These are the most toxic of the hydrocarbons and inhalation of the vapor can cause acute intoxication. Benzene is particularly toxic and long-term exposure can cause anemia and leukopenia, even with concentrations too low for detection by odor or simple instmments. The currendy acceptable average vapor concentration for benzene is no more than 1 ppm. PolycycHc aromatics are not sufftcientiy volatile to present a threat by inhalation (except from pyrolysis of tobacco), but it is known that certain industrial products, such as coal tar, are rich in polycycHc aromatics and continued exposure of human skin to these products results in cancer. 

Injected formulation of leuptoleine and triptoreline [57773-63 ] ate used to treat metastasized cancer of the prostrate, whereas an encapsulated formulation of bromocryptin [25614-03-3] is used to inhibit milk production in women after pregnancy. The performance of encapsulated hormonal polypeptides is weU documented (47). Injectable biodegradable mictocapsules loaded with fertUity control agents have been under development for a number of years and have been carried to various stages of clinical development (48) (see Contraceptives).
