The cost estimate developed for the process based on the integrated OTM-HTM reactor was used as a baseline cost, and the cost estimate for the process with the sequential reactors was developed by extrapolation. The hydrogen plant capacity was fixed at 1,000 scfh for the cost estimation. The capital costs for 2,000 and 5,000 scfh were estimated by using appropriate scale-up factors. For each capacity, costs were estimated for 10, 100, and 1,000 plants built/year. After reviewing the results, it was clear that the plants with capacities of 1,000 and... [Pg.99]

In the subsequent four years, annually update the baseline cost model and system scenarios based on assessments of developments in PEMFC system technologies and manufacturing processes. [Pg.279]

Level D certification would add about 5% to this baseline cost. [Pg.268]

A proper assessment of the costs and benefits associated with standardization depends on having suitable baseline data with which to make a comparison. Several surveys have shown typical doUat returns for the investment in standardization in the range of 5 1—8 1 with occasional claims made for a ratio as high as 50 1. [Pg.21]

All pollution prevention programs start the same - with an audit. The objective of an audit is to gather information aimed at developing a baseline description of the operations. Once we understand how much the costs of compliance to air and other pollution media are, then we can apply engineering tools and management practices to reduce these costs. [Pg.357]

The EPA argues that the cost of compliance to environmental regulations is small in comparison to baseline industry expenditures. However, there are many hidden costs that oftentimes are not considered when contemplating a control technology investment, and which can escalate and adversely impact on bottom-line economic performance. These so-called other costs include, but are not limited to ... [Pg.498]

In this formula, the ROI calculated is based on comparing the projected annual cost after implementation (C ) to a baseline armual cost before implementation (Cg). The ROI is computed as the ratio of anticipated cost savings (Cg - C ) to the projected implementation costs (Cg), expressed as a percentage. [Pg.504]

The efficiency of the existing systems is unlikely to be measured. Head counts of staff dedicated to PSM and ESH, and costs of PSM and ESH investments will be available. However, these provide no measure of efficiency and are probably inaccurate anyway. Other staff contribute part-time to PSM and ESH, and most projects will have benefits beyond PSM and ESH improvement. You should attempt to gather information on matters such as the time it takes to respond to new requirements and the annual costs of accidents, incidents, and noncompliances. These data will provide a baseline from which you can measure improvement as the integration project moves forward. [Pg.64]

The evaluation of existing systems and the most recent audit reports provide a baseline for efficiency and cost performance from which any improvements can be measured. Historical performance will provide a baseline for end-of-pipe improvements. The measurement system itself will measure improvement the initial record of performance provides a baseline... [Pg.122]

Specific goals and objectives will vary from plant to plant. However, we will provide an example that will illustrate the process. Before goals and objectives can be developed for your plant, you must determine the existing maintenance costs and other parameters that will establish a reference or baseline dataset. Since most plants do not track the true cost of maintenance, this may be the most difficult part of establishing a predictive maintenance program. [Pg.809]

As a minimum, your baseline data set should include the labor, overhead, overtime premiums and other payroll costs of the maintenance department. It should also include all maintenance related contract services, excluding janitorial, and the total costs of spare parts inventories. The baseline should also include the percentage of unscheduled maintenance repairs versus scheduled actual repair costs on critical plant equipment and the annual availability of the plant. [Pg.809]

This baseline should include the incremental cost for production created by catastrophic machine failures and other parameters. If they are available or can be obtained, they will help greatly in establishing a valid baseline. [Pg.809]

Only two randomized, controlled trials have been completed, and neither provides anything like compelling data (Table 2.6). Chouinard and Albright (1997) conducted a unique evaluation of a subset of patients from a previously conducted clinical trial. Subjects were categorized and profiled at baseline and end point according to clinical severity, and a group of psychiatric nurses were asked to rate various aspects of likely outcome and quality of life to each profile (mild, moderate or severe symptoms). Health state utilities were then calculated risperidone was found to provide more than double the number of quality-adjusted life years compared with haloperidol. Csernansky and Okamoto (1999) conducted a rather more conventional trial, but included no economic analyses. However, they did find that the use of risperidone substantially reduced relapse rates compared with haloperidol—an outcome likely to have a positive impact on cost-effectiveness. [Pg.27]

Because they require fewer subjects and are usually less costly to complete, cross-over trials are commonly used to investigate the effects of phytochemical products. Cross-over designs may be used effectively for studying conditions that are relatively stable so that a similar baseline status can be established at... [Pg.240]
