Trials controlled

This compound has antihistaminic activity and is usehil in the therapy of motion sickness. It may also be effective in the control of post-operative nausea and vomiting. It is classified as FDA Category B for Pregnancy, ie, no demonstrated risks shown in animal studies however, no controlled trials in pregnant women. Large doses may cause drowsiness and dry mouth owing to decreased secretion of saUva. [Pg.204]

It should be noted that it is extremely difficult to predict service lives of buried pipelines from the results of controlled trials with small specimens, whether in the laboratory or in the field. For example a study on the comparative corrosion resistances of ductile and grey iron pipes carried out jointly by European pipemakers in 1964-1973 indicated a mean pitting rate of 0 -35 mm/y for uncoated ductile iron pipe exposed in a typical heavy Essex clay of 500-900 ohm cm resistivity for 9 years. This is clearly at odds with the rate of 1 mm/y normally found on a corroded service pipe from such a soil. The discrepancy appears to be due to the use of specimens that were only a third of a pipe length each and were buried separately. It may reflect the contribution of the total surface area of the pipe as a cathode to the corrosion current at the anodic area at the pitting site. [Pg.593]

In low doses, inhaled NO may have a beneficial therapeutic effect, since NO in the inspired air leads to pulmonary vasodilation. In persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, NO inhalation has already been used with some success. NO inhalation as the treatment for acute respiratory distress syndrome, however, has been disappointing. Only transient improvements of oxygenation were detected and the outcome of placebo-controlled trials did not show any improvement... [Pg.575]

Quite separately, the results of a properly controlled trial were published in a 1974 paper entitled Electrostatic Descaler Testing an Evaluation (Meckler, M., Heating/Piping/Air Conditioning, Reinhold Publishing Co.). This paper concluded that the test descaler was not effective in preventing scale deposition, and we were unable to detect any measurable reduction in corrosion potentials. ... [Pg.337]

Dorus and colleagues (1989) conducted a multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in depressed and nondepressed alcoholic veterans.
