Application Tests

San Diego Gas Electric s system was originally installed as a research project. The intent of the research project was to test the hardware in this application, test the feasibility of operating such a system remotely with no local operators, and to prove the economics. Similar systems had been installed within process plants where operators were present to start and stop the system and monitor its operation. However, this was the first system installed on a natural gas transmission system with completely remote operation. 

Note If netilmicin is to be chromatographed alone it is recommended that the methanol content of the mobile phase be increased (e.g. to 23 -I- 7), in order to increase the value of the hRf. The detection limit for the substances in the application tested was more sensitive using DOOB reagent on RP layers than when NBD chloride, fluorescamine or o-phthalaldehyde were employed. The derivatives so formed were stable and still fluoresced after several weeks if they were stored in the dark.

Direct exposure to NO can cause respiratory problems. VOCs and NOjj are catalyzed by sunlight to form ground level ozone, often referred to as smog. NO can be generated from either stationary sources or mobile sources. In 1997, the EPA changed the ambient standard for ozone from 0.12 ppm to 0.08 ppm and the applicable test period was increased from I to 8 hours. 

There is a seemingly infinite variety of tests for specific applications, and some even have alternate adaptations for particular industries or customers. This section contains a few examples of common application tests for urethane foams, coatings, adhesives, and elastomers that may be conducted in addition to those described above. Some of these are just specialized versions of tests discussed in die previous section but are presented here because they have been developed for specific applications. Others are more broadly useful and very common.

In order to test the application of rhamnogalacturonase(RGase), a commercial enzyme-preparation was separated into several fiactions by ionexchange-chromatogr hy (see figure 2). Fractions were screated on rhamnogalacturonase-activity. The active fi- ons were tested in apple-application tests. 

Field Applicability Testing (FAT) Workshop. In March 1982, the EPA Office of Research and Development convened a workshop with the specific objectives to (1) assess the state of knowledge on determining the field applicability of laboratory bioassay tests, toxicity studies, microcosm studies, and mathematical chemical exposure models (i.e., the extent to which these methods have been tested/compared with field data), and (2) recommend research objectives and priorities to advance the current level of field testing. Workshop attendees included representatives from EPA research laboratories, universities, and private industry.

The chemical and physical requirements of the fuel shall conform to those listed in Table I, when tested in accordance with the applicable tests. Requirements contained herein are absolute and are not subject to correction for tolerance of test methods. However, if multiple determinations are made, average results shall be used... 

The test chapter section will include information about purpose, test documentation, review and approval, formal test plan, and test execution. Testing the spreadsheet should take all requirements into account. Tests using known cases and data including known results have to be developed. The data set used for testing should include representative data. If applicable, tests should also include data sets that will test values that exceed the anticipated range of normal operations and check for data close to the acceptance criteria limits. Data that make no sense (text in a numeric field) or are not allowed to be used in the calculation should be considered in the testing phase as well. The simplest test to validate a spreadsheet calculation is to perform a manual calculation and document it. All tests performed, results expected, acceptance criteria for the tests, and procedures for alternative calculation (e.g., manual calculation) will have to be documented. Persons who perform the testing have to be trained appropriately and must be mentioned in the documentation. 

This will always be application specific and will lead to limits to apply in the application test.
