FIRST-1 system

This is a computerized system produced by DNA Systems Inc. of Flint, Michigan. Erley (1971) has compared the performances of S/RCH-I, S/RCH-III, and FIRST-1 using the ASTM infrared data file. He used a test group of 138 unknown spectra selected at random from the literature. Features introduced into the FIRST-1 system increased the accuracy and precision above those of the other systems. Also, a novice could obtain successful results about as well as an expert. The cost per performance (taking all the factors affecting the search into account) was lowest for the FIRST-1 system. [Pg.542]

The first system called LiSSA has been developed for interpretation of data from eddy-current inspection of heat exchangers. The data that has to be interpreted consists of a complex impedance signal which can be absolute and/or differential and may be acquired in several frequencies. The interpretation of data is done on the basis of the plot of the signal in the impedance plane the type of defect and/or construction is inferred from the signal shape, the depth from the phase, and the volume is roughly proportional to the signal amplitude. [Pg.102]

An alternative approach to the microbial deracemization of secondary alcohols is to use two different microorganisms with complementary stereoselectivity. Fantin et al. studied the stereoinversion of several secondary alcohols using the culture supernatants of two microorganisms, namely Bacillus stearothermophilus and Yarrowia lipolytica (Figure 5.18) [31]. The authors tested three main systems for deracemization. First, they used the supernatant from cultures of B. stearothermophilus, to which they added Y. lipolytica cells and the racemic alcohols.
