Transportation administrative control

Make a list of ten or more administrative controls used in everyday life (parents with children, law enforcement, transportation, schools, etc.) and explain what hazard they safeguard against. [Pg.159]

Shield cask Worker safety Provide radiation protection such that worker exposures from radioactive material during cask transport are in accordance with 10 CFR 835 Shield design (Design Feature) Cask lid closure (Administrative Control)... [Pg.201]

Shield Cask Protection of HCF personnel from potentially lethal radiation exposures. Workers must ensure shield cask integrity prior to and during movement of the cask from the ACRR highbay to the HCF with an irradiated target. Administrative controls are in place to ensure that the cask lid is securely bolted in place prior to cask movement and to minimize the potential for accidents during cask transport. [Pg.324]

Electrotransport technology offers a number of benefits for therapeutic appHcations, including systemic or local adininistration of a wide variety of therapeutic agents with the potential adininistration of peptides and proteins long-term noninvasive administration, improving convenience and compliance controlled release, providing a desired deflvery profile over an extended period with rapid onset of efficacious plasma dmg levels and in some cases reduced side effects and a transport rate relatively independent of skin type or site. Additional benefits include easy inception and discontinuation of treatment, patterned and feedback-controlled deflvery, and avoidance of first-pass hepatic metaboHsm. [Pg.145]

The significance of the barrier function of membranes has been the topic of considerable research. The blood-brain barrier and the blood-retinal barrier are well understood, and the microscopic structures imparting and controlling barrier properties have been quite thoroughly investigated and the science reviewed [15, 154-155], The structures and functions of ocular membranes specific to transport associated with ophthalmic drug administration also have been topics of extensive research [15, 157-158],... [Pg.435]

Past chlordane use, coupled with atmospheric transport as the major route of dissemination, produced global contamination of fish and wildlife resources and human populations. The chemical and its metabolites were frequently detected in all species examined, but usually at low concentrations. Residues in fish muscle sometimes exceeded the U.S. Food and Drug Administration action level of 0.3 mg/kg fresh weight recommended for human health protection. In general, chlordane in animals is highest near areas where the chemical has been applied to control termites concentrations are highest in fat and liver, especially in predatory species. [Pg.877]

Figure 14.3 Integration plot of the initial uptake of [3H]adenosine by the retina after intravenous administration (A) and retinal uptake index (RUI) of [3H]adenosine and [3H]D-mannitol (B). A [3H]Adenosine (10 //.Ci/head) was injected into the femoral vein. B A test compound, [3H]adenosine or [3H]D-mannitol (10 //Ci/head), and a reference compound, [14C]n-butanol (0.1 //Ci/head), were injected into the common carotid artery in the presence or absence of 2 mM inhibitors. p < 0.05, significantly different from the control. Data from Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1758, Nagase et al., Functional and molecular characterization of adenosine transport at the rat inner blood-retinal barrier. 13-19, 2006, with permission from Elsevier. At the heart of the problem of relating improvements in air quality to reductions in pollutant emission is a reliable method of prediction. Only with such a method can there be rational planning for air pollution control through regulation of transportation, indirect sources, and stationary sources. Decision-makers need it as a tool and must specify it in their regulations. Otherwise, their administration of an air quality plan would be based on sheer guesswork tempered by political negotiation. [Pg.199]

Fig. 7 Transcriptome effects of T3 administration on the developing zebrafish embryo, (a) Heatmap of microarray results from 652 probes showing significant differences between T3-treated and control samples. Fold induction values (in log scale) are represented by different shades of color (scale shown in the far-right bar.), (b) Distribution of overrepresented (red), underrepresented (blue), and unchanged/undetected (ivory) transcripts in T3-treated embryos belonging to the functional categories ossification, visual processes, and oxygen transport. The significance of the observed variations (p values) was calculated by the hypergeometric distribution with the Bonferroni correction... Whereas the microprocessor controls an individual basic operation, the central computer, which has all the analytical procedures held in its memory, controls the particular analytical procedure required. At the appropriate time, the central computer transmits the relevant set of parameters to the corresponding units and provides the schedule for the sample-transport operation. All units are monitored to ensure proper functioning. If one of the units signals an error, a predetermined action, such as disposing of the sample, is taken. The basic results from the units are transferred to the central computer, the final results are calculated, and the report is passed to the output terminal. These results can also be transmitted to other data processing equipment for administrative or management purposes. The central control is, therefore, the leading element in a hierarchy of... [Pg.42]
