The Department of Transportation requires labelling of aH shipments of amines commensurate with the associated hazards. Amine shipments are regulated by the Coast Guard, the DOT, and the International Air Transport Association. AHphatic amines are stored satisfactorily ia carboa steel and stainless steel, but are corrosive to copper, alumiaum, ziac, and their aHoys.

The Ccirriage of hazardous materials by air is die concern of the Restricted Articles Board of the International Air Transport Association (lATA). The lATA Restricted Articles Regulations place limitations on the tv pes and quantity of clicniicals tliat are carried imd specify requirements for packaging and labeling. 

In 1999 an estimated 1.5 billion people from around the world chose to fly on commercial carriers. Within the United States alone, 530 million passengers chose to fly. During that year airliners took off and landed 7.3 million times on domestic flights alone. These aircraft consumed over 13 billion gallons of jet fuel. According to the Air Transport Association the U.S. airline industry spent more than 10 billion for fuel for its members domestic and international flights.

The list of approved equipment contains two sample transport containers designed for the transport of samples for off-site analysis. The two containers are labelled as Targe- and small sample transport kits (Pictures 3 and 4) and both are designed to fulfill the requirements for air transport [IATA (International Air Transport Association) provision A106] (6) and international standards for road, railway, and sea transport. The large container has been designed and tested by the United States and the small container by the United Kingdom. Therefore, the two containers are frequently referred to as US and UK containers.
