Conductive adhesive

Ziac foil coated with a conductive, pressure-sensitive adhesive is used for repair of other ziac coatings or for imparting corrosion resistance at field sites. The 0.08-mm ziac tape or sheet has a 0.025-mm coaductive adhesive. The laminate is cut to size and pressed tightly to activate the adhesive. Conductive tape can be wrapped around pipe, especially around welds or connections. The corrosion resistance of this material is iatermediate between galvanized or thermally sprayed coatings and zinc-filled paints (21,50). [Pg.137]

The N 300 series is characterized by a wide variety of rubber blacks, covering about 10 different types. As mentioned above, fme-particle active blacks are used for rubber components that need to withstand significant levels of mechanical stress, e.g. tire treads. Semi-active blacks, on the other hand, are used in the tire carcass but also in technical rubber components, from screen and door seals to floor mats. Tires also contain other special carbon blacks, for instance, so-called adhesion blacks for improving radial steel belt adhesion, conductive blacks or inactive blacks for higher filler load rates [4.26]. [Pg.182]

Isotropic adhesives conduct current equally in all directions and are the most common and widely used in industry. The anisotropic types, also referred to as z-direction adhesives or anisotropic-conductive adhesives (ACA), although filled with metal particles, are filled at much lower levels (0.5%-5% by volume) than isotropic types (filled 25%-30% by volume). The volume Iraction of filler is well below the percolation threshold at which the adhesive becomes highly conductive in all directions. Because of the low volume Iraction of metal particles, there are no continuous electrically conductive paths in the x-y plane. During the connection process, the anisotropic adhesive, either as a film or paste, is positioned between a flip-chip bumped die or a tape-automated bonded (TAB) die and the corresponding pads of an interconnect substrate. Pressure and heat are... [Pg.6]

A monomeric molecule of a nickel (Il)-cyclam derivative covalently linked to pyrrole has been synthesized, resulting in an adhesive conducting film on glassy carbon which presents a reversible behaviour of the Ni(III)/Ni(II) couple [190]. [Pg.443]

Conductive Adhesives. Conductive adhesives are available for bonding conductive floor coverings. The electrical properties are achieved by the addition of carbon fibers, carbon black, or graphite. Conductivity of a floor covering is sometimes required to avoid undesirable static charging. [Pg.72]

Anisotropically conductive adhesives conduct in one direction only. They are often referred to as z-axis conductive adhesives. These materials have found widespread use in LCD, Liquid crystal display, assembly due to their ability to resolve small gaps between conductor tracks and the fact that solder is not suitable for joining on glass substrates. [Pg.84]

A variety of expensive materials are required in small volumes for electrical/electronic applications. Their average price is almost 20 times greater than the average for all adhesives. Conductive adhesives are the most costly. Electrical/electronic adhesives must exhibit good electrical, bonding, and mechanical properties (Table 21). [Pg.28]

There are general classifications of conductive adhesive materials based on the method by which conduction is achieved. Isotropic adhesives are the most common, and have been used in flexible connections. They normally contain about 70 wt. % Ag particles, but other metals are used as well [6]. The quantity of metal loading is sufficient to assure that the adhesive is electrically conductive in all directions upon curing, as illustrated in Fig. 4, hence the term isotropic. This is in contrast to adhesives with much lower metal filling, such that there are an insufficient number of particle-to-particle contacts to render the adhesive conductive, as depicted in Fig. 5a. However, if the adhesive is sandwiched and compressed between a pair of terminal pads, the particles between the... [Pg.24]
