The crucial intuition driving these calibration results is the incremental nature of most addictive behavior. At each point in time, people choose whether to indulge now, and the cumulative effect of these decisions determines whether people get and remain addicted. With self-control problems, a sequence of incremental decisions can lead to behavior very different from how people would behave if committing up front to a lifetime path of behavior. In a rational choice model, in contrast, the incremental nature of addiction is irrelevant. If people know exactly what the future holds, and have no self-control problems, then people become addicted only if that is the optimal lifetime path of behavior. 

This chapter presents a comprehensive review of previous research on mead production. It will focus on honey characterization and mead production. The first section covers honey composition and the way this affects honey properties, as well as important parameters that are indicators of honey quality. The second section discusses mead production, including fermentative microorganisms, fermentation conditions, and required postfermentation adjustments and maturation conditions. The final section focuses on the problems that must be surpassed and what the future holds for mead production. 

The impacts and risks of the three approaches above and the actions they imply depend on what the future holds for the energy supply, energy prices and their impact on the economy, and environmental concerns such as climate change and regional air pollution. Because it is impossible to forecast the future with any reasonable accuracy, we suggested, for discussion purposes, four different futures that California might find itself in 15 years from now. What the future holds for oil supply and demand has been the subject of a number of recent books, with conflicting viewpoints expressed on such issues as the time-scale for reaching the Hubbard Peak in oil production, current oil reserve estimates, the ability of economic forces to drive exploration and expansion of oil reserves, and the role of more difficult to obtain and expensive sources of oil (such as tar sands) to satisfy demand. There are those who wish to continue business as usual, who say that changing the way we drive, build, shop, make electricity, grow food, and cut down our forests would be too inconvenient, too disruptive, too costly. No one knows for sure what the future holds, these voices argue, so why disrupt everything when we can continue burning coal (and removing whole mountaintops to get it), when we...

But in another way, our wish for control creates a dangerous illusion. In fact, we have no idea what the future holds. We can t ever be sure how our actions will affect our future. Maybe the money we wisely invested will be lost in the stock market, while the silly hobby we took up on impulse turns into a million-dollar career. That doesn t mean we should stop saving money or pursue frivolous pipe dreams. But it does mean that we shouldn t waste time feeling anxious or insufficient, wishing we could control a future that will take its own course. 

Markush DARC represents a system from which we can progress. Derwent and INPI have built in essential information into the database that allows for future expansion of capabilities. These capabilities include generic search, translation of generic expressions to specifics and specifics to generic expressions, and sophisticated limitations in search results. The van der Waals molecule pDFB- -Ar is not particularly large. Considering the number of difficulties experienced in the excellent close-coupling calculations so far performed, it is not clear what the future holds for this approach to van der Waals molecular dynamics. At some stage a practical solution will have to involve statistical methods. We can read more about these approaches in following papers.
