Water protection zones

Where a Water Protection Zone is created, use can be reconsidered within it... [Pg.51]

The National Rivers Authority (NRA) enforces quality standards in surface waters. In order to ensure water quality, the NRA may prohibit the use of certain chemicals. The NRA can also establish Water Protection Zones , where certain activities are prohibited. [Pg.524]

In waste water sewers and pipelines in water-protection zone II, leakproof testing must be carried out at certain intervals during operation, at least every five years. Shorter intervals may be necessary, depending on the type and loading of the sewers and pipelines [24]. [Pg.299]

In water-protection zone III, leakproof tests should be carried out according to need, generally every ten years. [Pg.299]

Sometimes it is possible to add corrosion inhibitors to an aqueous product that is to remain in contact with tinned steel. The normal inhibitors used for protecting steel, e.g. benzoate, nitrite, chromate, etc. are suitable, provided that they are compatible with the product and that the pH is not raised above 10. In a closed container with an air-space, such inhibitors will not protect the zone above the water-line, and possibly not the water-line zone itself, against condensate. Volatile inhibitors have been used to give protection to these areas. [Pg.503]

While before 1964 the main cause of poisoning was the violation of safety rules, more recently the causes of poisoning have been violating quarantine periods when returning to treated fields, violating health protection zones, and ingesting water and food products contaminated by pesticides (emphasis ours - authors). [Pg.62]

The design of sample assemblies used for the laser-moire approach is illustrated in Figures 5 and 6. Portions of the test surface are protected by Teflon bars that have machined recesses to avoid contact with reference (unexposed) areas of the sample. For some samples, the Teflon is supplemented with Parafilm M gaskets. Nylon fasteners are used where required near specimens, and stainless steel screws fasten together the parts of the Lucite holders. Although some exchange of liquid water between unprotected and protected zones is unavoidable for porous samples having unsmooth surfaces, the liquid is uncontaminated by materials of the holders and may be equilibrated with the specimens no difficulty has been apparent. [Pg.271]

The EPA protects zones that sigiuficantly exceed current WQS from negative impacts, thus making it difficult to impact a water body while ensuring the quality remains above its minimum. Prior to initiation of snch an adverse activity, several criteria must be met as defined under the Tier II rule. ... [Pg.1492]

The zoned principle of SPP arrangement is applied. For floating NPPs, a water area zone (limited by protective breakwaters and protective dams) and a coastal zone are provided along with a coastal technological site and a floating power unit (FPU) zone, which is a zone of increased control. [Pg.261]

Underground services must be located and marked where applicable, using plans, etc. Overhead power lines should be disconnected, but otherwise fenced/signed. Water, gas and electricity supplies must be disconnected. Fall prevention and protection techniques will be required in accordance with the Construction Regulations hierarchy of control. PPE required by assessments must be provided and worn. Dust should be controlled by a combination of damping down, housekeeping, work methods and local exhaust ventilation. Defined noise protection zones, barriers and work rotation combine to tackle noise above the action levels. Site boundary noise output may be the subject of local authority controls. [Pg.193]

An intermediate casing is usually set above the reservoir in order to protect the water bearing, hydrostatically pressured zones from influx of possibly overpressured hydrocarbons and to guarantee the integrity of the well bore above the objective zone. In mature fields where production has been ongoing for many years, the reservoir may show depletion pressures considerably lower than the hydrostatically pressured zones above. Casing and cementing operations are covered in section 3.6. [Pg.45]

Thermal Process. In the manufacture of phosphoric acid from elemental phosphoms, white (yellow) phosphoms is burned in excess air, the resulting phosphoms pentoxide is hydrated, heats of combustion and hydration are removed, and the phosphoric acid mist collected. Within limits, the concentration of the product acid is controlled by the quantity of water added and the cooling capabiUties. Various process schemes deal with the problems of high combustion-zone temperatures, the reactivity of hot phosphoms pentoxide, the corrosive nature of hot phosphoric acid, and the difficulty of collecting fine phosphoric acid mist. The principal process types (Fig. 3) include the wetted-waH, water-cooled, or air-cooled combustion chamber, depending on the method used to protect the combustion chamber wall. [Pg.326]

Phenylenediamine [95-54-5] M 108.1, m 100-101 , pK O.67 (aq H2SO4), pKj 4.47 (4.85). Crystd from aqueous 1% sodium hydrosulfite (charcoal), washed with ice-water and dried in a vacuum desiccator, or sublimed in vacuo. It has been purified by recrystn from toluene and zone refined [Anson et al. J Am Chem Soc 108 6593 1986]. Purification by refluxing a CH2CI2 solution containing charcoal was also carried out followed by evaporation and recrystn [Koola and Kochi J Org Chem 52 4545 1987], protect from light. [Pg.329]

The annular space between the outer pipe and the surrounding rock is filled with cement over the whole depth up to the ground in new wells. The purpose of this is to seal the deposits at the top and to keep the fresh water and salt water zones separate. In addition, it serves as a protection against pressure from the rock and as corrosion protection which, however, is only effective so long as there is no current exit caused by extended corrosion of cells or due to foreign anodic influences. The cement Ailing of the borehole casing is usually not uniformly spread over the pipe surface. It has to be remembered that there can be sections which are either not covered or are only thinly covered with cement. [Pg.415]

In water containing sulfate, the use of the electrolysis protection process with low water consumption can sometimes result in the formation of small amounts of HjS, which is detectable by the smell. Sulfate reduction occurs through the action of bacteria in anaerobic areas (e.g., in the slurry zone of the tank). [Pg.458]
