U rat

Neuromedin S (NMS), a neuropeptide of different chain length with potent anorex-igenic and circadian rhythm-modulating properties. NMS was identified and isolated from human, rat, and mouse brain tissues in 2005, and shows stmctural similarities to neuromedin U. Rat NMS-36, LPRLLHT... 

Toxicity. The U.S. Eood and Dmg Administration regards common salt, ie, NaCl, as GRAS for its intended use as a food additive. Oral toxicity for mammals is reported in mg/kg (16) for humans, TD qI 12,357 23D-C (daily-continuous) for mice, LD qI 4000 for rats, LD qI 3000 and for rabbits, LD qI 8000. TD q and LD q are lowest level toxic and lethal dosages, respectively. 

The LD q for sodium bromide taken orally by rats is 3.5 g/kg body weight, and the TD q orally in rats is 720 mg/kg (8). RTECS Hsts data on reproductive effects in male and female rats. Sodium bromide is Hsted in the TSCA Inventory, the Canadian Domestic Substances Hst (DSL), the European Inventory of Existing Commercial Chemical Substances (EINECS), the Japanese Existing and New Chemical Substances (ENCS), and the Korean Existing Chemicals Hst (ECL). It is not regulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation. 

Succinic acid is Generally Recogni2ed As Safe (GRAS) by the U.S. PDA (184) and is approved as a flavor enhancer, as a pH control agent in condiments, and for use in meat products. It causes irritation to the eyes (185), skin, mucous membranes, and upper respiratory tract. LD q in rat is 2260 mg/kg. Succinic acid, like most materials in powder form, can cause dust explosion.

Farnesyl transferase from rat cells is a heterodimer consisting of a 48 kD u-snbnnit and a 46 kD /3-snbnnit. In the structure shown here, helices 2 to 15 of the u-snbnnit are folded into seven short coiled coils that together form a crescent-shaped envelope partially surrounding the /3-snbnnit. Twelve helices of the /3-snl> nnit form a novel barrel motif that creates the active site of the enzyme. Farnesyl transferase inhibitors, one of which is shown here, are potent suppressors of tumor growth in mice, but their value in humans has not been established. 

Neurotropic and antistress properties of 2,4-dimethylpyrido[l, 2-u]pyr-imidinium perchlorate were compared with those of piracetam (95MI7). AH-Pyrido[l,2-u]pyrimidin-4-one binds selectively to rat A3 receptors with a A", value of 48/xM. No affinities were observed to rat Ai and A2 receptors (96MI17). 4-Oxo-4//-pyrido[l,2-u]pyrimidine-3-carboxylic acid and -3-carbonitrile did not exhibit significant antibacterial activities (97MI6).
