Of these sources, Kirk-Othmer s Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology is particularly recommended for questions on chemistry and on end uses. For information on properties and on toxicity and handling hazards, Patty s Industrial Hygiene, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and the Aldrich catalog are very nseful. Questions on industrial chemistry should be directed to Ullman s Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, and the texts by Chenier, Heaton, and White. Hawley s Condensed Chemical Dictionary is valuable as a source for dehnitions of the terms (language) of chemistry. [Pg.157]

The Aldrich Catalog. Aldrich Chemical Co., Inc., Milwaukee, Wisconsin.) Not your traditional hard-bound reference handbook, but a handy book, nonetheless. The company makes many compounds, some not yet listed in the other handbooks, and often gives structures and physical constants for them. As Aldrich is in the business of selling chemicals to industry, many industrial references are given. [Pg.35]

Users can easily search the CD-ROM by employing the Aldrich catalog number, Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) number, chemical name, or molecular formula. One can also export the chemical structures to some supported software for subsequent inclusion into word processing programs. The product is available from Aldrich Chemical Company, Inc., 940 West St. Paul Ave., Milwaukee, WI 54233. [Pg.107]

Listed in the Aldrich Catalog as f-butyl 6-oxo-2,3-diphenyl-4-morpholinecarboxylate and benzyl 6-oxo-2,3-diphenyl-4-morpholinecarboxylate,... [Pg.155]

It must not be in the Aldrich catalog, and it must be clearly labeled. We don t analyze for the library, but we buy only from reputable researchers. Maybe 2 or 3 percent of the compounds are not what the researcher thought 20 or 30 years ago, and about 10% are not very pure. [Pg.150]

Many of the chemicals used in this course will be unfamiliar to you. Their properties can be looked up in reference books, a very useful one being the Aldrich Catalog Handbook of Fine Chemicals. It is interesting to note that 1,4-dichlorobenzene is listed as a toxic irritant and naphthalene is listed as an irritant. Both are used as moth balls. Camphor, used in vaporizers, is classified as a flammable solid irritant. Salicylic acid, which we will use to synthesize aspirin (Chapter 26) is listed as moisture-sensitive toxic. Aspirin (acetylsalicyclic acid) is classified as an irritant. Caffeine, which we will isolate from tea or cola syrup (Chapter 8), is classified as toxic. Substances not so familiar to you—1-naphthol and benzoic acid—are classified respectively as toxic irritants and irritant. To put things in some perspective, nicotine is classified as highly toxic. ... [Pg.19]

A highly efficient method of producing triacetonamine from acetone and ammonia through Equation (4) was developed in the USSR (16). The cost of triacetonamine produced on the basis of this technology on a pilot plant scale is approximately 10 per kilogram which is significantly lower than that in the Aldrich catalog (1982) of chemicals and intermediates. [Pg.13]

Po ly (cap ro lac tone) and ethyl cellulose were obtained from Aldrich, and were used as received. They are seml-crystalllne materials and would be expected to exhibit localized changes In elastic properties at both and the melting point, T,. Physical parameters for these polymers were obtained from the Aldrich catalog. No value was available for the of PCAP the value In Table II Is estimated using the relationship... [Pg.226]

Technique 29, Section 29.11). You may need to search a computerized database to get the necessary information, or you may be able to find it in the Aldrich Catalog Handbook of Fine Chemicals, issued by the Aldrich Chemical Company. Current issues of this catalogue include listings of substances by CAS number. In your report, you should also report the relative percentage of the substance in the tablet extract. Finally, your instructor may also ask you to include the "quality" parameter from the "hit list." If possible, determine which components have antihistamine activity and which ones are present for another purpose. The Merck Index may provide this information. [Pg.529]

Physical Data mp 141-142 a somewhat higher value (143-145 °C) is cited in the Aldrich catalog. [Pg.496]

The Aldrich catalog is available online [6] and provides CAS registry numbers, Beilstein and PubChem ID numbers, in addition to physical constants and Safety Data Sheets (SDS). The catalog allows searching by name and structure. [Pg.26]

The Aldrich catalog, available online [6], offers SDS for all chemicals sold. Organic Syntheses [18] reviews each of its published procedures for safety. The Hazardous Substances Data Bank (HSDB) [23] has safety information for 5200 chemicals, including human, animal and environmental toxicity, emergency medical treatment, metabohc and pharmacokinetic data as well as chemical and physical information. [Pg.30]

Students often experience a moment of panic when the phrase readily available SMs appears—how are they, with only limited experience of organic chemistry, to judge what is readily available Different instructors will want to tackle this in different ways, but as far as problems in the text are concerned, either you will be given a range of molecules with which you can start, or, if there is no specification, you can have anything in the Aldrich catalog. ... [Pg.900]
