Soaps Textile

Dipropylene glycol is produced in the manufacture of propylene glycol and finds utiUty as an indirect food additive, in brake-fluid formulations, cutting oils, soaps, and solvents. Tripropylene glycol also finds use as a solvent, as textile soaps, and as lubricants (273).

Leblanc s process survived him. Within several decades, it was almost the only one used to produce washing soda for the textile, soap, glass, and papermaking industries. And eventually his synthetic sodium carbonate put the barilla and kelp collectors out of business.

Uses Methyl alcohol is a clear, colorless liquid with a slight alcoholic odor. Tripropylene glycol Is a water-white liquid. One of its unique features is Its combination of water-solubility and good solubility for many organic compounds. Because of high boiling point and low volatility it is used in the formulation of textile soaps, lubricants, cutting oils, and similar applications.

To make washing active to clean oils, fat and grease from textiles, soap (detergent) has to be added to water. To make dry cleaning active to clean salts, sugar and the like from textiles, dry cleaning detergent has to be added to the solvent. 

Most of the sulfur currently used is burnt to form sulfur dioxide for the use in the pulp and paper industry, for bleaching, and for conversion to sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid is generally considered to be the most important manufactured chemical. Compormds of sulfur have many commercial uses, for example, in the manufacture of chemicals, textiles, soaps, fertilizers, leather, plastics, refrigerants, bleaching agents, drugs, dyes, paints, paper, refined petroleum, and other products. 

Highway lamps often incorporate Na arcs, which produce a bright yellow glow. A few examples of the uses of sodium compounds are NaOH, called caustic soda, lye, or soda lye (used for production of rayon, cleansers, textiles, soap, paper, and many polymers) ... 

Patent Textile Soaps.—Stockhausen (Eng. Pat. 24,868, 1897) makes special claim for a soap, termed Monopole Soap, to be used in place of Turkey-red oils in the dyeing and printing of cotton goods and finishing of textile fabrics. The soap is prepared by heating the sulphonated oil (obtained on treatment of castor oil with sulphuric acid) with alkali, and it is stated that the product is not precipitated when used in the dye-bath as is ordinary soap, nor is it deposited upon the fibres.
