Liquid rubbers In order to improve the flexibihty of short glass fiber-reinforced epoxy composites, Kaynak et al. [53] modified the epoxy resin matrix with hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) liquid mbber. A silane coupling agent was also used to improve the interfacial adhesion between glass fibers and epoxy matrix. However, Humpidge et al. [54] reported some unique processing problems for the resulting pasty mixmres when short textile fibers were incorporated in a hquid mbber medium. [Pg.354]

Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is primarily used as a reactive flame retardant in epoxy resin circuit boards. Both hydroxyl groups on TBBPA can be reacted with epichlorohydrin under basic conditions to form the diglycidyl ether, which is widely used in epoxy resin formulations. TBBPA is also used in polycarbonate and ether polyester resins and is used as a chemical intermediate for the synthesis of tetrabromobisphenol A allyl ether, -bis(2-hydroxyethyl ether), -carbonate oligomer, and -diglycidyl ether. TBBA is also used as a flame retardant in plastics, paper, and textiles, and as a plasticizer in adhesives and coatings. [Pg.2537]

There are frequent reports about non-occupational cases of epoxy-resin sensitivity too. Contact dermatitis due to the epoxy resin in textile label patches has been attributed to the epoxy containing adhesive (Fregert and Orsmark 1984). We recommend limiting patch tests with epoxy chemicals to the standardised test series because of the danger of active sensitisation. CDT is perfoimed by the application of a large electrical field to the fibers through a sharp electrode. Many applications of conducting textiles involve the formation of laminates or composites with various thermoset resins such as epoxy, imide, and rubber. The adhesion between the various layers of the composite is a critical factor in the utility of these structures. Only a few papers have addressed the adhesion of polypyrrole-coated fabrics with epoxy resins [44,451. Nitrile rubber is compatible with phenol-formaldehyde resins, resorcinol-formaldehyde resins, vinyl chloride resins, alkyd resins, coumarone-indene resins, chlorinated rubber, epoxies and other resins, forming compositions which can be cured providing excellent adhesives of high strength, high oil resistance and high resilience.
