Test, testing impact

The chemical industry has responded to the demand presented by TSCA in differing ways. Additional resources have been added in (1) personnel, (2) testing facilities, and (3) recordkeeping/surveillance systems. Other effects have been increased testing, impacts of banned substances and a variety of new or increased internal and external activities.

In general, materials conforming to ASTM specifications listed by the code may be used at temperatures down to the lowest temperature listed for that material in ASME B31.3 Table A-10. When wmding or other operations are performed on these materials, additional low-temperature toughness tests (impact testing) may be required. Refer to Table 10-51 for a general summary of these requirements.

Impact Test. Impact testing is of importance because adhesives, like most polymeric materials, are sensitive to high rates of application of force. The resistance of an adhesive to impact can be determined by ASTM D 950. This test is analogous to the Izod impact test method used for impact studies on materials.

Non toughened semi-crystalline PET is a very brittle polymer whatever the loading conditions are i.e., un-notched and notched tensile tests, dart test (impact of a hemispherical striker against a clamped plaque) and izod test (Fig. 1. to Fig.4.). Mechanical Testing. Impact strength was measured using ASTM method D-250-56 and is reported in foot-pound per inch of notch.
