Systems and procedures

This chapter considers in the context of supply chain management the following three comer stones of systems and procedures  [Pg.281]

Consider a bus service. What as passengers are our basic requirements First, unless the bus is going more or less where we want to go, we would not catch it. The second requirement is timing - usually we have a time frame by which we judge a bus service. If we start work at 9 a.m. unless the bus gets us to the office before 9 we would not catch it. Another consideration will be cost. Therefore, the basic requirements in this example would be the route, the time [Pg.281]

There are many different definitions and dimensions of quality to be found in books and academic literature. We will present three of these definitions selected from published literature and propose a three-dimensional definition of quality. [Pg.282]

One of the most respected definitions of quahty is given by the eight quality dimensions (see Table 17.1) developed by David Gravin of the Harvard Business School (1984). [Pg.282]

The above dimensions of quality are not mutually exclusive, although they relate primarily to the quality of the product. Neither are they exhaustive. [Pg.282]

Specialty Gases. The purity of specialty gases depends on the systems and procedures adopted by the distributors for bulk gas supply and cylinder preparation, filling, and deHvery. The distributors need to foUow strict cylinder selection, preparation, and filling procedures to ensure the quaHty of the products. Most of the precautions taken into consideration in the bulk gases deHvery system are also appHed for specialty gases to eliminate recontamination. [Pg.89]

Develop and install emergency system and procedures to shortstop runaway reaction. [Pg.18]

Modern management systems stress the need for continuous monitoring of defined systems and procedures for enforcement and improvement of quality systems. These should minimize immediately and eliminate ultimately the recurrence of simihir problems through preventive measures. [Pg.249]

Inspect to confirm that people and equipment are really there for safety critical systems and procedures. [Pg.112]

Develop specific process safety management systems. Working within the pian, the task groups will develop specific systems and procedures for implementing PSM. The Division A team will focus on its own operations, while (name s) group will direct its efforts toward the other divisions. [Pg.33]

Given the large variety of maintenance and operating systems and procedures that exist within the CPI, it is impossible to provide a set of data collection forms that will completely satisfy the requirements of all users. However, sample forms are included that contain many of the elements that data collection efforts must address. Using these as a reference, the reader should be able to capture necessary raw data. [Pg.216]

Having decided on the appropriate way to proceed with the project, the owner needs to satisfy himself that adequate system and procedures have been put in place to give him the necessary control and confidence in the project. These will, of course, vary considerably from owner to owner and project to project, but certain key points are worth remembering. [Pg.47]

Similarly, security should be a function of senior management, and it should rank alongside other management responsibilities. This will help to demonstrate that the company is committed to a security program that appropriate resources are allocated and those protective systems and procedures are properly used and maintained. [Pg.166]

Your policy statement should describe your arrangements, ie the systems and procedures you have in place for ensuring employees health and safety. [Pg.2]

The procedure begins with a material factor that is a function only of the type of chemical or chemicals used. This factor is adjusted for general and special process hazards. These adjustments or penalties are based on conditions such as storage above the flash or boiling point, endo- or exothermic reactions, and fired heaters. Credits for various safety systems and procedures are used for estimating the consequences of the hazard, after the fire and explosion index has been determined. [Pg.437]

Not all chromogenic compounds are suitable for quantitative measurements, and the choice of system and procedure depends largely on the chemistry of the species to be determined. Points to be considered in the selection of a procedure include ... [Pg.372]

Regular involvement, walk-around inspections, informal spot checks, and specific topical discussions by line management and staff can be used to ensure that chemical reactivity hazard management systems and procedures are actually being implemented and followed on a day to day basis. Questions should be raised if unexpected changes have been made or unusual circumstances are detected. [Pg.124]

For every NDA, some clinical study is almost certain to remain in progress at the time when the NDA is submitted. Safety update reports are therefore required to be submitted to FDA by the applicant while the NDA is pending, and particularly following receipt of an approvable letter. Detailed systems and procedures are required to ensure that the data in the NDA and the safety updates are accurate and complete, and failure to meet these requirements is regarded by FDA as a serious deficiency. [Pg.586]

Once the robotic system and procedure passed the optimization and reproducibility tests for a certain type of reaction, the researcher has the chance to move on to the most delightful part of a high-throughput experimentation workflow that is to follow the reaction kinetics of the reaction by withdrawing several samples under comparable conditions. The characterization of these samples allows the determination of the apparent rate constants and activation energies in a very reproducible way. As an example, the anionic polymerization of St in cyclohexane initiated by i-BuLi under different reaction conditions was investigated. Several samples were withdrawn during the reaction into small vials which were prefllled with 25 pL of... [Pg.32]

A written detailed description of the system should be provided (including diagrams) and kept up to date. It should describe the principles, objectives, security measures and scope of the system, the main features of the way in which the computer is used, and how it interacts with other systems and procedures [13]. A computer system is a particular type of equipment, and, as for any equipment, it is required to have a SOP available and, if possible, near the equipment. [Pg.831]

The basis of safety for a chemical reaction process is the combination of measures which are relied upon to ensure safety. Defining the basis of safety for a reactor is essential as it highlights those aspects of the design and operation (hardware, protective systems and procedures) which are safety-critical. There are many factors to be considered and further advice is given in references 1 and 2. [Pg.120]

The most popular method for measuring the polarity of a solute entails determination of the distribution constant between water and a water-immiscible solvent, e.g., octanol. However, because there is difficulty in dissolving proteins in the solvent, a two-phase aqueous system was developed (Shanbhag and Axelson, 1975). Albertson (1986) reported the construction of various aqueous phase systems for partitioning proteins, other macromolecules, and even cells. Recently, simpler aqueous biphase systems were selected for hydrophobic partitioning of proteins (Hachem et al., 1996). However, because of restrictions similar to those for HIC, as discussed above, it may be premature to replace the method used in Basic Protocol 5. The definition of hydrophobicity is based on the polarity of chemical compounds, which is closely related to the distribution between solvents of different polarities. This theory is similar to the elution mechanism of phase distribution chromatography as well as phase partition. However, complexity in the partition system and procedure hampers the broad use of the phase partition approaches. [Pg.310]

Test batteries applicable for the pT-scale employ standardized test systems and procedures recognized by standardization organizations such as AFNOR, ASTM, DIN, EN, ISO, or OECD. The level of expertise required by personnel to ensure the proper application of pT-method bioassays must therefore comply with established norms. The necessary qualification will also depend on the test system being used. [Pg.134]

Use a manual system or a simple database program (e.g., Excel, ACCESS) to crosslink those relationships in order to illustrate the impact a proposed change will have on multiple established systems and procedures. Included is an illustration of how the database might work. [Pg.341]

Identifies only the key deficiencies of the systems and procedures but lacks specifics... [Pg.436]

Process flow diagrams of the entire manufacturing process are produced and identification of the CCPs is determined. The assessments include typical hazards and corrective actions. The fact that the thought process and procedures are in place before a crisis occurs offers great benefit. It is a proactive rather than reactive system approach. This same approach can be applied as a tool for the quality assessment of pharmaceutical operations. Examining the systems and procedures using this tool may assist in identifying previously unidentified problems and deficiencies. [Pg.437]

Trans-Atlantic Business Dialogue. The aim of the Trans-Atlantic Business Dialogue is to boost transatlantic trade and investment opportunities between the United States, and the EU by removing excessive regulation, duplication, and differences in the EU and U.S. regulatory systems and procedures. [Pg.351]

Follow the column, disk, and electroplating preparation instructions that are given below the procedure. Follow the instructor s directions if the laboratory has a different electrodeposition system and procedure. [Pg.121]

Mobile Phase, Internal Standard, Assay Preparation, Chromatographic System, and Procedure Determine as directed in the Assay, except calculate the percentage of (Z) isomer taken by the formula... [Pg.500]
