Surveillance history

Health surveillance on a regular basis covering skin inspections, enquiries/tests relating to respiratory function consider the need to screen out staff with medical histories of allergic reactions. [Pg.146]

As a means of maintaining the integrity of its pipeline system, each operating company shall establish and implement procedures for continuing surveillance of its facilities. Studies shall be initiated and action shall be taken where unusual operating and maintenance conditions occur, such as failures, leakage history, drop in flow efficiency due to internal corrosion, or substantial changes in cathodic protection requirements. [Pg.73]

The Full Inspection Qption is a surveillance or compliance inspection that is thorough and gives the FDA a deep understanding of the cGMP program in a manufacturing facility. This type of inspection is conducted when the FDA has little knowledge about the facility, such as a new facility or where the facility has a history of noncompliance or when the FDA has doubt about the facility s quality system. The Full Inspection Qption audits at least four systems in the facility, one of which must be the quality system. [Pg.326]

Close clinical surveillance of all women taking OCs is essential they should be reexamined at least once a year. In all cases of undiagnosed persistent or recurrent abnormal vaginal bleeding, rule out malignancy. Monitor women with a strong family history of breast cancer or who have breast nodules, fibrocystic disease of the breast, cervical dysplasia, or abnormal mammograms. [Pg.217]

Because individuals with a history of addiction to, or abuse of, drugs or alcohol are at risk of habituation and dependence, they should be under careful surveillance when receiving zolpidem or any other hypnotic. [Pg.1181]

Psychotic disorders Cautiously treat patients suffering from psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, or confusional states and keep under careful surveillance because exacerbations of these conditions have been observed with oral administration. Autonomic dysreflexia Use with caution in patients with a history of autonomic dysreflexia. The presence of nociceptive stimuli or abrupt withdrawal may cause an autonomic dysreflexic episode. [Pg.1283]

Surveillance programmes also exist in occupational settings. In this case, it may be possible to follow reproductive histories (including menstrual cycles) or semen evaluations to monitor reproductive effects of exposure. With adequate exposure information, these could yield very useful data for risk assessment. Reproductive histories are easier and less costly to collect than semen evaluations. Semen studies also may have limited response rates, thus reducing their representativeness. It is important to reassure workers that the data they provide for such programmes remain confidential and will not affect their employment status (Samuels, 1988 Lemasters, 1993 Lindbohm, 1999). [Pg.123]

In a study based on the Los Angeles County, United States, Cancer Surveillance Program, white male chemists with malignant melanoma and with other cancers (used as controls) were interviewed (Wright et al., 1983). Four of the seven chemists with malignant melanoma gave a history of exposure to benzoyl peroxide (among many other chemicals) and none of the nine controls. [Pg.347]

In German history, censorship unfortunately has been more of a rule than an exception. It was introduced by the Catholic Church in the form of the Inquisition. However, it was left to the well-known Austrian statesman Mettemich to perfect the system of suppressing freedom of speech by means of a comprehensive spy and surveillance apparatus. Neither the German Empire nor the Weimar Republic were particularly soft in their dealings with unwelcome literature,1 but the worst reputation was doubtless acquired by the Third Reich, which managed, within the twelve years of its existence, to black-list some 10,000 books. While these books were not burned, they did disappear from the shelves of bookstores, to be banished to library archives.2... [Pg.567]

The Vibration Inspectors at PPG-Lake Charles collect data on 27,000 data points from 2,100 equipment sets. The vast amount of data requires a Pentium computer with a 2-gigabyte hard disk to manage it. R. W. LeBlanc described the benefits of a proactive vibration program by citing a number of case histories (1985). His list of success stories [10] of a vibration surveillance and analysis includes ... [Pg.175]

The above study was based on information derived from the General Practice Research Database in the UK. Subjects who had been given at least one prescription for dexfenfluramine, fenfluramine, or phentermine after 1 January 1988, and who were 70 years or younger at the time of their first prescription were included. Subjects were considered to have a new cardiac abnormality if they had no history, on the basis of clinical records, of cardiac valvular abnormahties and if there was evidence of a new valvular disorder on the basis of echocardiography or chnical examination after exposure to appetite suppressants. All the data had been recorded before the pubhcation of recent reports of an association between appetite suppressants and cardiac valve disorders (25,27,30-32) or primary pulmonary hjq)ertension (14). Hence, it was possible to exclude the possibihty that enhanced awareness of possible serious adverse effects of appetite suppressants had led to closer surveillance of patients who were taking these drugs. Nevertheless, the study did not provide information on the frequency of idiopathic cardiac valve disorders that are asymptomatic or otherwise not chnicaUy diagnosed. [Pg.1335]
