And yet alchemical laboratories proliferated in the early modern period as alchemy s visibility rose. In the cities, courts, and cloisters of the Holy Roman Empire, practitioners and patrons with the means to do so built special buildings for their alchemical work, while others improvised with whatever spaces were available kitchens, churches, apothecary shops, and workshops. Archival remnants of some of these spaces do, in fact, remain these bits and pieces—inventories, architectural details, supply orders, and reports—offer a glimpse of their contours and how space organized the activity inside that can complement the work of archaeologists. This view from the laboratory floor, as it were, not only can begin to fill in some very basic details about how space was employed to organize the production... 

Although controlled drugs are dealt with in Chapter 6, for completeness, it is worth mentioning midwives supply orders here. Midwives supply orders are needed for the lawful supply of certain controlled drugs to a midwife from a pharmacist (i.e. those items listed above that are Schedule 2 or Schedule 3 controlled drugs diamorphine, morphine, pentazocine and pethidine). They are not required for the supply of other listed prescription-only medicines. 

The supply orders enable the supply of controlled drugs to the midwife for use in his or her own professional practice. The midwife is not allowed to provide the controlled drug to a third party to administer. 

Currently, the pharmacist must retain the midwives supply order for two years (although this may change in line with other requisitions for controlled drugs see Section 6.3.6). 

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) in The Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines a team approach suggests that there should be a locally approved procedure for authorising the supply orders (for example, ensuring the quantity ordered is appropriate). 

A midwife s supply order is a particular type of requisition for specific controlled drugs and has been discussed in Section 5.2.5. 

Check that all test supplies ordered were received and are adequately located. Ensure that the required number and type of sample containers and plugs is ready at the lab. Tag them with weatherproof tags. Ensure that these tags are different from those used for normal analysis. Ensure that all the required safety clothing has been received by those who will use them. 

Ratio of demand variability to order variability measures the standard deviation of incoming demand and supply orders placed. A ratio less than 1 potentially indicates the existence of the bullwhip effect, which is discussed in Chapter 10. 

The Purchasing Department shall specify that MSDSs are required with all orders, Supervisors using local supply orders (LSOs) to obtain chemicals should ensure that an MSDS is available for the product prior to or at receipt of the product. 

In contrast to an oil production profile, which typically has a plateau period of 2-5 years, a gas field production profile will typically have a much longer plateau period, producing around 2/3 of the reserves on plateau production in order to satisfy the needs of the distribution company to forecast their supplies. The Figure 8.9 compares typical oil and gas field production profiles. 

Information supplied by flaw visualization systems has decisive influence on fracture assessment of the defect. In order to represent 3D molecular models it is necessary to supply structure files with 3D information (e.g., pdb, xyz, df, mol, etc.. If structures from a structure editor are used directly, the files do not normally include 3D data. Indusion of such data can be achieved only via 3D structure generators, force-field calculations, etc. 3D structures can then be represented in various display modes, e.g., wire frame, balls and sticks, space-filling (see Section 2.11). Proteins are visualized by various representations of helices, / -strains, or tertiary structures. An additional feature is the ability to color the atoms according to subunits, temperature, or chain types. During all such operations the molecule can be interactively moved, rotated, or zoomed by the user. 

The oxygen used in the combustion is supplied by a small cylinder (120 Atm.) fitted with a pressure reduction valve, pressure gauge (to avoid the risk of the cylinder becoming exhausted during an actual determination) and fine control knob. These kinds of stores carry hobby/craft supplies, gimmicky science fair projects, ant farms and a low assortment of basic scienceware products such as beakers, thermometers, scales, rubber stoppers and most of the basic chemicals such as acids, bases and solvents. These places are listed in the chemicals section of any big city s yellow pages and are relatively safe places to get most of the basic lab necessities. The drawback is that they are really expensive and don t sell very large quantities of any chemical. It is possible to have these places special order a needed chemical as long as it s not a controlled chemical. 

Urea is conveniently obtained as a constituent of many fertilizers and so it is easily obtained. Sources have indicated that a 501b bag can be purchased for 15 in the US. It is of less than ideal purity from this source, so some washing will be in order (with what ). Glacial Acetic Acid is easily obtained from photographic supply stores in high purity and for cheap as well. This reaction produces Acetamide with such purity that the product does not...

Description of Method. Creatine is an organic acid found in muscle tissue that supplies energy for muscle contractions. One of its metabolic products is creatinine, which is excreted in urine. Because the concentration of creatinine in urine and serum is an important indication of renal function, rapid methods for its analysis are clinically important. In this method the rate of reaction between creatinine and picrate in an alkaline medium is used to determine the concentration of creatinine in urine. Under the conditions of the analysis, the reaction is first-order in picrate, creatinine, and hydroxide. 

The need for redundancy in the culture system needs to be assessed. Failure of a well pump that brings up water to supply a static pond system may not be a serious problem in countries where new pumps can be purchased in a nearby town. However, it can be disastrous in developing countries where new pumps and pump parts are often not available, but must be ordered from another country. Several weeks or months may pass before the situation can be remedied unless the culturist maintains a selection of spares. 

Benzene, toluene, and a mixed xylene stream are subsequently recovered by extractive distillation using a solvent. Recovery ofA-xylene from a mixed xylene stream requires a further process step of either crystallization and filtration or adsorption on molecular sieves. o-Xylene can be recovered from the raffinate by fractionation. In A" xylene production it is common to isomerize the / -xylene in order to maximize the production of A xylene and o-xylene. Additional benzene is commonly produced by the hydrodealkylation of toluene to benzene to balance supply and demand. Less common is the hydrodealkylation of xylenes to produce benzene and the disproportionation of toluene to produce xylenes and benzene. 

Most HCl consumed foi the production of EDC and methyl chloride is recycled acid generated in an integrated process and therefore does not affect net supphes of HCl. The exclusion of HCl consumption for EDC and methyl chloride production gives a better indication of net HCl supply. This figure gives only an order of magnitude of net HCl available for captive consumption and sales.
