These kinds of stores carry hobby/craft supplies, gimmicky science fair projects, ant farms and a low assortment of basic scienceware products such as beakers, thermometers, scales, rubber stoppers and most of the basic chemicals such as acids, bases and solvents. These places are listed in the chemicals section of any big city s yellow pages and are relatively safe places to get most of the basic lab necessities. In other cases, the laboratory may provide its own. If drums are needed, they are available from companies engaged in drum reconditioning. Awareness of very reactive chemicals is essential. Advice on handling highly flammable and/or potentially explosive reagents is provided in the lUPAC-IPCS book Chemical Safety Matters, and the properties of many common but hazardous laboratory chemicals are succinctly summarised in the yellow pages section of Hazards in the Chemical Laboratory, 5th edn., ed. S.G. Luxon, Royal Society of Chemistry, Cambridge, 1992. One particular explosive hazard, peroxide-forming chemicals, is described in more detail in Section 11.8. [Pg.173]

Of the thirty pounds per person per year of cheese consumed in the United States, a good deal of it is in the form of melted cheese found atop our new national food pizza. Oxygen Therapy involves the administration of either ozone or hydrogen peroxide (Walters, 1993, pp. 229-239, Pelton and Overholser, 1994, pp. 111-121).
