Status of research

This section will describe the current status of research in two different aspects of nanocrystal phase behaviour melting and solid-solid phase transitions. In the case of melting, thennodynamic considerations of surface energies can explain the reduced melting point observed in many nanocrystals. Strictly thennodynamic models, however, are not adequate to describe solid-solid phase transitions in these materials.

The guest editors have assembled an excellent set of reviews and research articles covering all aspects of the field of carbon nanotubes. The reviews are presented in a clear and concise form by many of the leading researchers in the field. It is hoped that this collection of review articles provides a convenient reference for the present status of research on carbon nanotubes, and serves to stimulate future work in the field.

Human behavior is influenced by many factors among these are hormones or other chemicals produced by various tissues or glands throughout the body. This paper reviews the current status of research relating hormones to human behavior. To provide background for this discussion, a brief history of this field and a primer in behavioral endocrinology are provided. 

Very recently, highly regular, highly controlled, dense branching has been developed. The resulting dendrimers often have a spherical shape with special interior and surface properties. The synthesis and properties of dendrimers has been reviewed (see e.g. G.R. Newkome et al. Dendritic Molecules , VCH, 1996). In this series, a chapter deals with the molecular dimensions of dendrimers and with dendrimer-polymer hybrids. One possible development of such materials may be in the fields of biochemistry and biomaterials. The less perfect hyper-branched polymers synthesized from A2B-type monomers offer a real hope for large scale commercialization. A review of the present status of research on hyperbranched polymers is included.

The reviews Toxicological Indications of the Organic Fraction of Aerosols A Chemist s View by Van Cauwenberghe and Van Vaeck (1983) and Atmospheric Reactions of PAH by Van Cauwenberghe (1985) provide critical assessments and extensive literature references of the status of research to 1985 in the complex area of heterogeneous photochemical reactions and of the interactions of PAHs on laboratory substrates, primary combustion particles, and ambient particulate matter with ozone and NOz in air. In the following sections, we briefly summarize results from this earlier era and address subsequent studies on heterogeneous atmospheric reactions of PAHs in simulated and real atmospheres. 

Salvia divinorum Epling Jdtiva-M. is one of the vision-inducing plants used by the Mazatec Indians of central Mexico. The present status of research is summarized. Experiments with material collected at different Oaxacan sites confirmed that the mint has white (rather than blue) flowers with a purple calyx and that flowering is induced by short daylength.

Most of the work done in US on combustible and consumable cartridge cases has been published in classified reports(See Refs, 1,3,4, 6,7,8,9,10,11,14,16,17,18,21,22 26) and cannot be used here as sources of information. There are, however, some unclassified papers and reportsfSee Refs 5,12,13,15,19,20,23,24 25), which give some important info on the present status of research and development of combustible and consumable cartridge cases. Especially valuable info is contained in Refs 20,23 24... 

While there are no newly reported naturally occurring benzodiazepines since the first survey (7 ). the interest in this area remains high. The current status of research and clinical implications has been reviewed (1484). It is noted that natural benzodiazepines, including seven known halogenated examples (1), are found in soil, plants, animal and human tissues, and are chemically identical to their pharmaceutical counterparts. The endogenous formation of benzodiazepines by plant cells (Artemisia dracunculus and Solarium tuberosum) has been demonstrated for delor-azepam, temazepam, and diazepam (1485).

Allergy is a multigenetic condition, therefore with the current status of research development, vaccines which might prevent the occurrence of these syndromes are not known. Moffatt proved that asthma is often related to the occurrence of histocompatibility antigens HLA DRB1, which corresponds with the increased number of total IgE, however, it is particular genes that are responsible for increased specific IgE concentration (Moffatt et al., 2001). 

The outline of binary, ternary, and quaternary sulfide systems with the VI-B group elements (e. g., Cr, Mo, W) is not claimed to be complete. However, it does represent the current status of research.
