Statement object

Meta-statement for the object level reflects an object-level sentence to its existence at the meta-level. It has the form statement(object-level-sentence), e.g.

An adequate membership function could be the one plotted in Figure 9-25 m x) has its maximum value of m x) = 1 for value x = 3. No single method or algorithm of optimization exists that can be apphed efficiently to all problems. The method chosen for any particular case will depend primarily on (I) the character of the objective function, (2) the nature of the constraints, and (3) the number of independent and dependent variables. Table 8-6 summarizes the six general steps for the analysis and solution of optimization problems (Edgar and Himmelblau, Optimization of Chemical Processes, McGraw-HiU, New York, 1988). You do not have to follow the cited order exac tly, but vou should cover all of the steps eventually. Shortcuts in the procedure are allowable, and the easy steps can be performed first. Steps I, 2, and 3 deal with the mathematical definition of the problem ideutificatiou of variables and specification of the objective function and statement of the constraints. If the process to be optimized is very complex, it may be necessaiy to reformulate the problem so that it can be solved with reasonable effort. Later in this section, we discuss the development of mathematical models for the process and the objec tive function (the economic model). 

Budgeted income statements are identical in form to ac tual income statements. However, the budgeted numbers are objectives rather than achievements. Budgetary models based on mathematical equations are increasingly being used. These may be used to determine rapidly the effect of changes in variables. Variance analysis is discussed in the treatment of manufacturing-cost estimation. 

This policy statement may be combined with that of safety (quality and safety should be twin objectives) and should be signed or properly reviewed within the last 12 months. 

The cost and economics of cathodic protection depend on a variety of parameters so that general statements on costs are not really possible. In particular, the protection current requirement and the specific electrical resistance of the electrolyte in the surroundings of the object to be protected and the anodes can vary considerably and thus affect the costs. Usually electrochemical protection is particularly economical if the structure can be ensured a long service life, maintained in continuous operation, and if repair costs are very high. As a rough estimate, the installation costs of cathodic protection of uncoated metal structures are about 1 to 2% of the construction costs of the structure, and are 0.1 to 0.2% for coated surfaces. 

A large part of polymer processing technology can be summed up in the statement get the shape then set the shape. There is no guidance in ISO 9000 1994 on the subject matter of corporate quality policies. However, in the Committee Drafts (CD) of ISO 9000 2000 there is now some useful information. It is recommended that the quality policy should be consistent with the overall policy and goals of the organization and should provide a framework for the setting of quality objectives and quality targets. For the first time in these standards, a link has been made between policy and objectives so that policies are not merely motherhood statements but intentions for action. By deriving objectives from the policy you initiate a process for bringing about compliance with policy. 

Whether you address all five of these subjects for quality objectives depends on your strategy but all need to be defined in the business plan and all need to deploy the quality policy, thereby making a standalone statement of objectives unnecessary. 

The subject matter of quality objectives is prescribed by the quality policy to some extent. Hence an appropriate method would be to derive one or more statements of objectives from each statement in the quality policy. If you adopt the eight quality management principles as your framework, having eight groups of quality objectives would not be unreasonable (see previously under Subject matter for quality policy). 

Prior to conducting process studies a statement of objectives, the methods to be used, and the form in which the results are to be recorded should be defined. The standard allows for undocumented verbal orders but requires that the order requirements are agreed before their acceptance. The third party auditor cannot confirm conformity with this requirement as there will be no objective evidence to substantiate the transaction other than the payment invoice. If the supplier confirms the agreement in writing a written statement of requirement exists. The standard does not stipulate that the agreement has to be documented only that the requirements need to be documented regardless of who produced them. The only evidence that the requirements were adequately defined is therefore the payment from the customer against the supplier s invoice. 

In structural design, we start with a set of design requirements in order to define our objectives. The design requirements are merely a statement of what we want the structure to do. Tha verly simplistic definition will be expanded upon throughout the book, especially in Section 7.2.5 and in Section 7.6. With that objective in mind, we will now examine the steps we must take to attack the objective. 

Successful Quality Management programs usually have clearly defined missions and objectives. Of the organizations that have committed to integration, we have found no single example that meets our needs. The following mission statement and goals have been adapted from several sources. 

Issue public statements only in an objective and truthful manner.

This simply says what you have learned by experience - that you must push an object to start it moving and push it in the opposite direction to stop it again. 

Action-oriented When writing objectives, use statements that have action-tense verbs and are complete sentences.

The revamp objectives, constraints, and requirements must be clearly stated in a statement of requirement document transmitted to the engineering contractor. The document should be sufficiently detailed and require minimum interpretation so as to avoid oversights and unnecessary site visits. 

This statement is quite easy for parents or students to understand. Your room tends to get messy because an ordered room has few options for objects to be moved around (leaving socks on the floor is not an option for an orderly room). The comedian Bill Cosby insists that with an army of 80 two-year-olds he could take over any country in the world, because they have a remarkable ability for disorganization. 

It is desirable for the record to have an objective statement of the nature and degree of color deterioration. The simplest, but least desirable, method is comparison of sample color with color charts or plates such as those used in the Munsell system, Ridgeway s color standards, or the Maerz and Paul dictionary of color. Such a method is limited in value because of the difficulty of obtaining true color matches, and because of variations due to human error. The use of color charts or plates may be much improved in the Munsell system by employing a disk colorimeter (29). Kramer and Smith (21) have pointed out that the results obtained in its application to foods are sometimes difficult to explain and compare, and that the method requires special training of the operator and is tedious and cumbersome.
