Quality management principles

The subject matter of quality objectives is prescribed by the quality policy to some extent. Hence an appropriate method would be to derive one or more statements of objectives from each statement in the quality policy. If you adopt the eight quality management principles as your framework, having eight groups of quality objectives would not be unreasonable (see previously under Subject matter for quality policy). 

PSM buiids on what is in piace, and seeks to integrate safety issues into ongoing business operations"as opposed to imposing an eiaborate exter-nai structure. The goais of PSM are process-oriented, not procedure-driven, and reflect the Total Quality Management principle of continuous improvement. 

We will eliminate all duplication of effort within our PSM and ESH systems by integrating the elements, programs, and management processes wherever possible. We will achieve this integration by using Quality Management principles to design new systems. We will measure our improvement in terms of fewer resources, quicker response to new demands and improved PSM and ESH performance.

From a historical perspective, with the introduction of univariate control charts by Walter A. ISO 9004-2000 is a guidance document that provides more information regarding the quality management system. As stated earlier, the clause structure of this standard is the same as that of 9001-2000. The title of this standard is Quality Management Systems—Guidelines for Performance Improvements. It is, however, based on the same quality management principles as ISO 9001-2000. The focus of this standard is the improvement of the processes of an organization in order to enhance its performance. 

The clauses of ISO 9001-2000 are included in a box within the clauses of 9004 for immediate reference for users of ISO 9004. The verb used in ISO 9001 is shall, whereas that used in 9004 is should. The clauses of ISO 9004-2000 ace based on the following eight quality management principles customer focus, leadership, involvement of people, process approach, system approach to management, continual improvement, factual approach to decision making, and mutually beneficial supplier relationships.
