Coating sputtered

Lavik and Campbell studied coatings sputtered at temperatures between 150°C and 427°C, and found a high degree of crystallinity. They estimated that about 30 per cent of the crystais were oriented with their basal planes parallel to the substrate surface, and 70 per cent perpendicular to the surface. Most workers now appear to assume that above 70°C an even higher proportion of the crystals have the perpendicular orientation and this is discussed later. 

All of these criteria apply also to the Compact Disks. CDs cannot be allowed to drop onto one another, because this would damage their highly sensitive surfaces. CDs are coated (sputtered) and lacquered in subsequent operations. A handling device is used to place the CDs into the machines used for these operations. 

Silver-treated intravascular catheters have been also developed and tested for their ability to reduce infection rate. A conventional approach to coat devices with silver is the direct deposition of metallic silver onto the device surface by vapor coating, sputter coating, ion beam coating, or electrochemical deposition. More recent methods to incorporate silver in polymers consisted in the coordination of silver ions by anionic pus or direct formation of silver nanoparticles onto the surface of PU... 

There are no resolvable variations among different metal coatings sputtered to thicknesses of 20 nm or more, when examined in microscopes...
