Solvent booster

Dimethylformamide (DMF) n. A colorless and very active solvent for PVC, nylon, polyurethane, and many other resins and elastomers, with fairly low volatility. Its strong solvent power makes it useful as a solvent booster in coating, printing, and adhesive work, and in paint strippers. Because it is toxic and readily absorbed through the skin, DMF must be handled, and disposed of, with care. [Pg.302]

Solvent for various resins (vinyl, phenolic, polyester, alkyd, nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, etc.) Ingredient of metal cleaners, paint strippers, and other cleaning compounds where solvents and solvent boosters are required as an ink vehicle. [Pg.197]

The main purpose of pesticide formulation is to manufacture a product that has optimum biological efficiency, is convenient to use, and minimizes environmental impacts. The active ingredients are mixed with solvents, adjuvants (boosters), and fillers as necessary to achieve the desired formulation. The types of formulations include wettable powders, soluble concentrates, emulsion concentrates, oil-in-water emulsions, suspension concentrates, suspoemulsions, water-dispersible granules, dry granules, and controlled release, in which the active ingredient is released into the environment from a polymeric carrier, binder, absorbent, or encapsulant at a slow and effective rate. The formulation steps may generate air emissions, liquid effluents, and solid wastes. [Pg.70]

The major use of methyl chloride is to produce silicon polymers. Other uses include the synthesis of tetramethyl lead as a gasoline octane booster, a methylating agent in methyl cellulose production, a solvent, and a refrigerant. [Pg.139]

About 95% of the MTBE is used as an octane booster/oxygenate in gasoline, as of this writing. The rest is used is used as a solvent and as feedstock in the production of methacrolein and methacrylic acid. [Pg.188]

Uses Denaturant for ethyl alcohol manufacturing flavors, perfumes (artificial musk), flotation agents solvent paint removers octane booster for unleaded gasoline dehydrating agent chemical intermediate. [Pg.231]

Uses Manufacture of acetone, acetophenone, diisopropylbenzene, a-methylstyrene and phenol, polymerization catalysts constituent of motor fuel, asphalt, and naphtha catalyst for acrylic and polyester-type resins octane booster for gasoline solvent. [Pg.687]

Uses Solvent for nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, polyvinyl butyral, rosin, shellac, manila resin, dyes fuel for utility plants home heating oil extender preparation of methyl esters, formaldehyde, methacrylates, methylamines, dimethyl terephthalate, polyformaldehydes methyl halides, ethylene glycol in gasoline and diesel oil antifreezes octane booster in gasoline source of hydrocarbon for fuel cells extractant for animal and vegetable oils denaturant for ethanol in formaldehyde solutions to inhibit polymerization softening agent for certain plastics dehydrator for natural gas intermediate in production of methyl terLbutyl ether. [Pg.712]

Guanidine picrate is procured as a yellow, finely crystalline precipitate by mixing warm solutions of guanidine nitrate and ammonium picrate. It is even less sensitive to blow and to shock than ammonium picrate it is not detonated by fulminate and is used with a picric acid booster. The pure material, recrystallized from alcohol or from water, in both of which solvents it is sparingly soluble, melts with decomposition at 318.5-319.5°. [Pg.168]

Ethyl chloride rose to commercial importance because of the automotive industry. It was the starting material for tetraethyllead, at one time the most commonly used octane booster. Demand has been cut drastically because of the conversion from leaded to unleaded gasoline for environmental reasons. Other uses for ethyl chloride are in the production of ethyl cellulose, as an ethylating agent, as a blowing agent, and in solvent extraction. [Pg.359]

Tetryl forms yellow crystals with a melting point of 132 Celsius—it explodes when heated to 180 Celsius. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in alcohol, benzene, and acetic acid. Solutions of tetryl in solvents should be stored in a dark place, protected from light—as they will slowly deteriorate on standing—normally tetryl is stored dry or moistened with kerosene or water. Solutions of tetryl or even the dry solid upon the skin and teeth causes yellow staining. Tetryl is a very powerful explosive used primarily in detonators as a booster for artillery, mortar, and projectile fuses. Tetryl is a standard military initiating explosive (booster). Tetryl boosters are common in shape charges, mines, mortars, artillery shells, rockets, anti-tank munitions, and missiles. [Pg.139]
