Alkyds are actually a type of polyester resin and are produced by direct fusion of glycerol, phthahc anhydride, and drying oU at 410°F-450°F (210°C-232°C). The process involves an esterification reaction of the alcohol and the anhydride and transesterification of the drying oil.
