Naphthalene sodium prepared in dimethyl ether or another appropriate solvent, or metallic sodium dissolved in Hquid ammonia or dimethyl sulfoxide, is used to treat polyfluorocarbon and other resins to promote adhesion (138—140). Sodium, usually in dispersed form, is used to desulfurize a variety of hydrocarbon stocks (141). The process is most useful for removal of small amounts of sulfur remaining after hydrodesulfurization.

Sodium content Sodium content of antacids may be significant. Patients with hypertension, CHF, marked renal failure, or those on restricted or low-sodium diets should use a low sodium preparation. 

Indigestion, heartburn, and nausea are common side effects of valproate therapy. Use of the divalproex sodium preparation will help mitigate these effects. Patients may also be encouraged to take their doses with food. The symptomatic use of histamine H2 blockers, such as famotidine, is sometimes warranted. In most cases, however, dyspepsia is transient and not severe. Pancreatitis is a rare occurrence in patients receiving relatively high doses of valproate. If vomiting and severe abdominal pain develop during valproate therapy, serum amylase levels should be determined immediately. 

A solution of NaGaCH in DMSO may be prepared by reacting acetylene with dimsyl sodium (prepared from NaH and DMSO) in DMSO [39], other acetylenes can in principle be metallated in a similar way. The kinetic stability of NaC CCHjR in DMSO is limited, however. At somewhat elevated temperatures a slow isomerization to CHjCsCR occurs, whereby DMSO acts as the proton source [37].

Effect of sodium. Prepare a solution containing 5 ppm Ca and 1000 ppm Na. Record the absorbance and compare with that of 5 ppm Ca. Explain any difference.

Amphogel is not a low-sodium preparation. This client requires a low-sodium antacid. 

In sodium systems the joints are made, as a rule, by means of welding. Some exceptions include flange joints of the sodium preparation system. Tanks for sodium transport (for example tank cars) are connected to sodium circuits with the use of removable sections. Often after carrying out of the connection operation some leaks through flange joints appeared. These leaks were immediately detected by personnel carrying out the operations and (or) by monitoring systems. 

Thus, of the total number of 61 considered leaks about one third of all the cracks that occurred resulted from erroneous actions of operating or repair personnel. About one half of cracks occurred at repair or start-up activities or at the sodium preparation system (i.e., at the system which in no way is related with reactor safety).

In the sodium systems, weld joints are used as a rule. Flange joints are used as an exception in the sodium preparation system. Vessels for sodium transportation (such as railroad tank-cars) are connected to the sodium systems using removable pipeline sections. Leaks in the flange joints occurred very often after connection had been made. These leaks were detected on the early stage by the operator or detection systems.
