Semi-interpenetrating network

A semi-interpenetrated network was obtained by bulk polymerization of 2-hydroxye-thyl methacrylate incorporated in DMF treated PET films by solvent-exchange technique, followed by treatment of films in e-lectrical discharges. Heparinization was accomplished by reacting glutaraldehyde with heparin and poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) present on the surface of modified polyester films. The immobilization of heparin was indirectly evidenced by chromatographying the silylated hydrolyza-tes of heparinized PET films and heparin, respectively. In vitro experiments demonstrated the enhanced thromboresistance of heparinized films. [Pg.229]

So, the PVA/poly(sodium styrene sulphonate) [PSSNa] blend was obtained by casting aqueous solution of polymers mixture (PVA with Mw= 124,000-186,000 and HD=99% and PSSNa with Mw= 70,000). The resulted films were crosslinked with 1,2-dibromethane in gaseous phase. A semi-interpenetrating network (SIPN) in which polyelectrolyte (PSSNa) chains are trapped inside a based PVA network was obtained [44], A totally miscible blend with a very good film clarity and high mechanical resistance [44] resulted. [Pg.144]

There are several interesting applications reported in the literature, such as insulated wire and cable, UV cross-linking of drawn fibers, and tapes from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. Semi-interpenetrating networks (IPNs) from acrylates and polyurethanes are suitable as UV curable adhesives with high elasticity, good impact resistance, and excellent adhesion to a variety of substrates. ... [Pg.80]

Extensive research has been conducted and reviewed on interpenetrating polymer networks during the past decade (31-33). IPNs can be categorized into Semi-l-IPN and Semi-2-IPN. Semi-2-IPNs are those in which crosslinkable oligomers or materials are polymerized into the linear matrix. Semi-interpenetrating networks could have combined polymers that have same or different repeating units. [Pg.315]

Sjmthesis of a linear polymer that is then trapped in a crosslinked network formed from a second component. Since only one polymer is crosslinked, this is a semi-interpenetrating network. This is also known as a tps iAo-interpenetrating network. [Pg.127]

An alternative approach52 involves polymerization of conventional polymer in the presence of a soluble conducting polymer (alkylated thiophene) to form a semi-interpenetrating network. The polythiophene was dissolved in solutions of styrene and divinyl benzene conductivities in the range 0.01-0.10 S cm-1 were obtained. [Pg.238]

Other modifications of vegetable oils in polymer chemistry include the introduction of alkenyl functions, the study of novel polyesters and polyethers and the synthesis of semi-interpenetrating networks based on castor oil (the triglyceride of ricinoleic acid) [42], and also the production of sebacic acid and 10-undecenoic acid from castor oil [44]. Additionally, the recent application of metathesis reactions to unsaturated fatty acids has opened a novel avenue of exploitation leading to a variety of interesting monomers and polymers, including aliphatic polyesters and polyamides previously derived from petrochemical sources [42, 45]. [Pg.20]

Table 11.9). PBT/EPR blends were prepared either by reactive or mechanical blending. In the first case, BDO and DMT, at a molar ratio = 2, with 300 ppm catalyst, were charged into a N -flushed, stainless steel, stirred reactor. After 1 h at 190°C, methanol started to be collected for an hour. Next, the temperature was increased to 210°C and 30 wt% of EPR particles were added into the reaction mixture. The polymerization of PBT in the presence of EPR resulted in a semi-interpenetrating network. TGA showed that the weight loss of EPR was negligible thus EPR was found to be thermally stable during polymerization. [Pg.813]
