Small Island States

Mauritius is already a victim of the adverse impact of climate change (we cannot forget the floods of 26 March 2008) and of fuel and food crises, to which it may not have contributed in any significant manner. The difficulties get further exacerbated because of our heavy dependence on imports of basic commodities and overseas markets for our goods, among others. The social responsibility angle of development has become crucial at least for the small island states.

While I have characterised state-averse as an historical feature of Southeast Asia (minus Vietnam and the Irrawaddy basin), there was a wide variety of experiences with states both of the cosmic templebuilding and the trade-oriented type. At one end of the spectrum were the hill peoples in general, along with boat people or sea-gypsies of small-island clusters, and the inhabitants of some other small islands of... 

The coast of the State of Maine is one of the most irregular in the world. (2) It is deeply indented with many coves and harbors, and numerous small islands dot the shoreline. (3)In fact, this area is a prime example of what geologists refer to as a drowned coastline. (4)Draw a straight line from the southernmost city in Maine, Kit-tery, to the northernmost coastal city, Eastport. (5)This line would measure about 225 miles. As stated in the Experimental section, these coatings were applied using an airbrush technique. Visual Inspection of these coatings under a microscope reveals that the films are not contiguous, but are dispersed on the surface as small islands. In this case, expansion of the films may be responsible for the gradual slope of the frequency-temperature curves. 

For the alkali metal clusters in the solid state, only a small island of stability exists so far, and this is with the suboxides of the heavy alkali metals Rb and Cs [4] at relatively low temperatures. Similar compounds of the lighter metals and the higher homologues of oxygen do not exist.
