Laser-based profilometry systems have also been applied for nondestructive testing and measurement of both smooth-bore and rifled gun tubes. Working through Small Business Innovation Research program, the U.S. Army has developed laser-based profilometry systems for the inspection of the 120mm cannon used on the MI-Al Abrams main battle tank. Systems have also been built to measure the erosion of 25 mm and 155 mm rifled gun tubes. 

Trichloroethylene use has declined as a result of environmental concerns. However, trichloroethylene may replace some 1,1,1-trichloroethane appHcations. Perchloroethylene used in small businesses for dry cleaning will be regulated for emissions under the same guidelines as those that govern the large chemical producers. This will cause replacement of perchloroethylene for those appHcations where recovery is uneconomical. Methylene chloride has been classified as a suspected carcinogen and its use will decline in aerosol and paint stripping appHcations because of health concerns.

PAFC systems are commercially available from the ONSI Corporation as 200-kW stationary power sources operating on natural gas. The stack cross sec tion is 1 m- (10.8 ft"). It is about 2.5 m (8.2 ft) tall and rated for a 40,000-h life. It is cooled with water/steam in a closed loop with secondary heat exchangers. The photograph of a unit is shown in Fig. 27-66. These systems are intended for on-site power and heat generation for hospitals, hotels, and small businesses. Another apphcation, however, is as dispersed 5- to 10-MW power plants in metropolitan areas. Such units would be located at elec tric utihty distribution centers, bypassing the high-voltage transmission system. The market entiy price of the system is 3000/kW. As production volumes increase, the price is projec ted to dechne to 1000 to 1500/kW. 

The safety alert concept is another tool that can be used by large or small businesses to communicate past best practices and indicate a path forward. Therefore, OSHA would antieipate that the less eomplex methodologies would be used to meet the proeess hazard analysis eriteria in the standard. These proeess hazard analyses ean be done in less time and with fewer people being involved. A less eomplex proeess generally means that less data, P IDs, and proeess information are needed to perform a proeess hazard analysis. 

Many small businesses have proeesses that are not unique, sueh as refrigerated warehouses or eold storage loekers or water treatment faeil-ities. Wliere employer assoeiations have a number of members with sueh faeilities, a generie PHA, evolved from a eheeklist or what-if questions, eould be developed and eflfeetively used by employers to refieet their partieular proeess this would simplify eomplianee for them. 

The standard doesn t require a procedure for Management Review and while it does require procedures for Design Control it does not specify that a Design Review Procedure is required. The phrases consistent with and in accordance with have the same meaning as both imply compatibility and agreement. If you restrict yourself to a literal interpretation of the standard, you need produce no more than 43 documented procedures - possibly less if some aspects do not apply to your business. You can combine several procedures in one document, the size of which depends on the complexity of your business. The more complex the business the greater the number of quality system documents. Tools and Strategies for Greening Chemical Inventories in Small Businesses... 

Given the scope and impact of formulated products, tools are needed to help chemical choosers - whether product developers or purchasers - to identify chemicals with desirable characteristics from the hazard perspective and to determine how the use of a particular chemical will affect the overall hazard profile or greenness of a product. We focus in particular on pubhcly available tools and resources that can support small businesses who may not have extensive environmental health and safety resources but who seek to green their chemical products and inventories.
