Safety resources

Given the scope and impact of formulated products, tools are needed to help chemical choosers - whether product developers or purchasers - to identify chemicals with desirable characteristics from the hazard perspective and to determine how the use of a particular chemical will affect the overall hazard profile or greenness of a product. We focus in particular on pubhcly available tools and resources that can support small businesses who may not have extensive environmental health and safety resources but who seek to green their chemical products and inventories.

Although the company has very limited safety resources onsite, management perceives safety as added value and hires individuals from organizations with a good safety culture. The management commitment to safety is clearly evident in each aspect of the safety program. 

All industries, especially the surfactant and detergent industries, have been heavily involved in various recent controversies such as health and safety problems, resource and energy conservation movements and so on. Under these circumstances, more emphasis has to be placed on key words SAFETY, RESOURCE SAVING and EFFICIENCY. The AIChE s Center for Chemical Process Safety has a wide variety of process safety resources. The Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) was established to focus on engineering and management practices that will prevent or mitigate catastrophic process safety accidents. The CCPS has a dynamic program of publications, seminars, training courses, and research. Because the system safety professional focuses more attention where there are no or insufficient knowledge bases, some in industry perceive that the scope of the system safety discipline is just in those areas, where little or no knowledge bases exist. However, the scope of the system safety discipline is much broader and the system safety professional must have a complete understanding of how to use and apply the existing safety resources, in addition to when to use other system safety analyses to evaluate the entire system throughout its entire life cycle. The use of bomb threats is a common ploy to divert public safety resources while another location is attacked. A bank can be robbed while public safety personnel are dealing with a bomb threat at a school. Bombs can also be used as a diversion for the same reason.
