Sinapis

Pharmacopoeia of the People s Republic of China, English Edition Vol. 1 2010 

Mustered Seed is the ripe seed of Sinapis alba L. or Brassica juncea (L.) Czern. et Coss. (Earn. Cruciferae). The former is known as Bai Jiezi (Semen Sinapis albae). the latter is known as Huang Jiezi (Semen Brassicae junceae). 

Chinese Provinces Yunnan, Fujian, Guangdong and Sichuan 

Bia Jiezi Spherical, 1.5-2.5 mm in diameter. Externally greyish-white to pale yellow, finally reticulated, with an obvious point -like hilum. Testa thin and brittle, after cutting, white folded cotyledons visible, oily. Odour, slight taste pungent. 

Huang Jiezi Relatively small, 1-2 mm in diameter. Externally yellow to brownish-yellow, a few dark reddish-brown. Odour, characteristic and pungent when triturated and moistened with water.

Parasorbic acid (Figure 2) was isolated from fruits of Sorbus aucuparia. Germination of mustard seed Sinapis alba) was affected adversely by parasorbic acid at 3.5 X 10-3 M and growth of excised tomato roots was inhibited at approximately 8.5 X 10 4 M (25). The acid also antagonized indoleacetic acid (IAA) in the Avena assay. Cornman 29,30) reported that parasorbic acid slowed down mitosis. Metaphase stages were observed to accumulate, but abnormalities were not detected.

Pyraflufen-ethyl was primarily developed as a cereal herbicide to control a broad spectrum of broadleaf weeds. Pyraflufen-ethyl applied in early postemergence at 12 g a.i. ha provides excellent control of some important weeds such as Anthemis arvensis, Lamium purpureum and Sinapis arvensis and good suppression of Matricaria chamomilla, Stel-iaria media, Veronica persica and Viola spp. 

Seed coating with extracts of mustard (Sinapis alba) and horse radish (.Amoracia lapathifolia) was shown to have high efficacy against T. caries spores but not Fusarium spp. (SpieB and Dutschke, 1991).

In microsomes from Sinapis alba L.,33,34 Tropaeolum majus L.,35,36 and Carica papaya L.,37 the aromatic amino acids (tyrosine and phenylalanine) have been shown to be converted to the corresponding oximes by cytochrome P450-dependent monooxygenases. The conversion of tyrosine to the corresponding oxime in microsomes from S. alba was approximately 1000 fold lower than in microsomes from the cyanogenic sorghum.33 This made a biochemical approach for the isolation...

Bromo-6-(3-pyridyl)-2,3-dihydro-imidazo[2,l- ]thiazole 481 was reported to be herbicidally active against Setaria, Sinapis, and Stellaria <1996MI247>. 

The leaf flavonoids of the cruciferous species such as Camelina sativa, Crambe abyssinica, Crambe hispanica, Thlaspi arvense, Brassica napus and Sinapis alba were separated and identified with the combination of HPLC, TLC and paper chromatography. Llavonoid aglycones were extracted by cutting fresh three-week-old leaves in tiny pieces and boiled in 50 ml of 2 M HC1 for 45 min. 

Plants exposed to heavy metal stress often increase the pH of the growing medium in order to reduce their uptake. We have recorded such a response in Sinapis alba L cv. Nakielska plants grown in the presence of (Figure 5) (Wihska-Krysiak and Gawrohski, 2002). This parameter...
