The United States has been a major producer and user of natural gas, but only a few percent of annual production is used for vehicles, construction and other equipment including power generation. Compressed natural gas has been used in about 30,000 vehicles in the United States, which includes school buses, delivery trucks, and fleet vehicles. Worldwide, about a million vehicles in thirty-five countries operate on natural gas. Some of the countries where natural gas is widely used include New Zealand, Italy and countries of the former Soviet Union. Vehicles that operate on liquid natural gas have also been used in taxis in Korea and Japan. [Pg.24]

Such politically driven revisions of the race concept became more urgent still as the fully horrific details of the fascist programs in Europe became known. In response to German and Italian state policies, for instance, a handbook for secondary school teachers (1939) pointed out that Mussolini s effort to drive the Jews out of Italy is impossible, because not even the foremost anthropologist could tell exactly whose ancestry is free of Jewish blood. 27 Likewise, Benedict s popular pamphlet The Races of Mankind (1943) insisted, Aryans, Jews, Italians are not races. 28... [Pg.109]

The school was established in Venice, Italy. For most of the young participants it was the hrst time they visited the city, which provided the perfect setting for informal and pleasant contact among all participants. [Pg.326]

He was a Professor of Industrial Chemistry, School of Engineering, Polytechnic Institute of Milan, Milan, Italy since 1937. He became involved with applied research, which led to the production of synthetic rubber in Italy, at the Institute in 1938. He was also interested in the synthesis of petrochemicals such as butadiene and, later, oxo alcohols. At the same time he made important contributions to the understanding of the kinetics of some catalytic processes in both the heterogeneous (methanol synthesis) and homogeneous (oxosynthesis) phase. In 1950, as a result of his interest in petrochemistry, he initiated the research on the use of simple olefins for the synthesis of high polymers. This work led to the discovery, in 1954, of stereospecific polymerization. In this type of polymerization nonsymmetric monomers (e.g., propylene, 1-butene, etc.) produce linear high polymers with a stereoregular structure. [Pg.382]
