He was in parallel consulting professor at Brooklyn Polytechnic School from 1911 to 1914, Lecturer at Yale University, New Haven CT from 1920,andfrom 1927 Lecturer at the Engineering School of Harvard University, Cambridge MA. He was awarded in 1929 Honorary mechanical engineer at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken NJ. He further was the recipient of the ASME Honorary Membership in 1936.

The economy of the municipality is characterized by the tertiary activities, where the tertiary-superior and tertiary quaternary profiles present a score over regional and national means. The health facilities, centred in four hospitals with supra-regional influence, the educational facilities related with universities and polytechnic schools with over 33000 students, and some commercial activities explain the importance of the tertiary activities. 

The main reason for the slow start was simply that there were few chemists, and hardly any chemical industry in Norway in the nineteenth century. From about 1870 the number of chemists increased and chemical engineers were educated from local polytechnic schools and from technical schools in Germany. Some of the university-trained science teachers concentrated on chemistry, particularly those few who attained a job at the university. 

Many associations, mainly pertaining to wine production and trade and pharmacy, reacted against the closure of the LMCP. The Academy of Sciences of Lisbon also joined this movement as well as the directors of the chemical laboratories of the University of Coimbra, and the Polytechnic Schools of Oporto and Lisbon.
