Scheduled maintenance

Economic Considerations. The principal economic consideration is, of course, total installed system cost, including the initial cost of the flow primary, flow secondary, and related ancillary equipment as well as material and labor required for installation. Other typical considerations are operating costs and the requirements for scheduled maintenance. An economic factor of increasing importance is the cost of disposal at the end of normal flow meter service life. This may involve meter decontamination if hazardous fluids have been measured. 

The selection of materials to be used in design dictates a basic understanding of the behavior of materials and the principles that govern such behavior. If proper design of suitable materials of construction is incorporated, the eqiiipment should deteriorate at a uniform and anticipated gradual rate, which will allow scheduled maintenance or replacement at regular inteivals. If localized forms of corrosion are characteristic of the combination of materials and environment, the materials engineer should still be able to predict the probable life of equipment, or devise an appropriate inspection schedule to preclude unexpected failures. The concepts of predictive, or at least preventive, maintenance are minimum requirements to proper materials selection. This approach to maintenance is certainly intended to minimize the possibility of unscheduled production shutdowns because of corrosion failures, with their attendant possible financial losses, hazard to personnel and equipment, and resultant environmental pollution. 

Building maintenance schedules Try to schedule maintenance activities that interfere with HVAC operation or produce odors and emissions (e.g., painting, roofing operations) so that they occur when the building is unoccupied. Inform occupants when such activities are scheduled and, if possible, use local ventilation to ensure that dust and odors are confined to the work area. 

Scheduled maintenance Work performed at a time specifically planned to minimize interruptions in machine availability e.g. changing a gearbox when machine is not required for use (includes predictive and preventive maintenance). 

Started. Since pump A and its associated pipework was off-line, the supervisor took the opportunity to carry out scheduled maintenance on the pressure relief valve (PRV) downstream of pump A. The valve had been malfunctioning, and although the work was not scheduled to be done for some weeks, the specialist contractor team who maintain the PRVs had a team available to carry out the work immediately. The supervisor therefore now had two teams working on the pump A systems the shift maintenance team working on the pump itself, and a two-man contractor team working on the PRV and its associated pipework. The PRV for pump A is not located immediately adjacent to the pump, and is above floor level, close to a number of other pipe runs. The following description represents a hypothetical sequence of events based on the inquiry findings, but embellished for the purposes of the case study. 

It is easy to see, therefore, that in one operating system six catastrophic failures would be recorded whereas in others they would range through a combination of catastrophic, degraded, or incipient failures until, with better filters, better operator, frequent scheduled maintenance, all the failures would be eliminated. 

Reference or baseline data sets should be acquired for each machine-train or process system to be included in a predictive maintenance program when the machine is installed or after the first scheduled maintenance once the program is established. These data sets can be used as a reference or comparison for all future measurements. However, such data sets must be representative of the normal operating condition of each machine-train. Three criteria are critical to the proper use of baseline comparisons reset after maintenance, proper identification, and process envelope. 

Scheduled maintenance is work based on known information, such as number of operations, hours mn, mileage, etc., and can therefore be carried out at a predetermined time interval. 

However just stating these objectives will not make it happen nor will it provide the means of measuring the success of the program. Establish specific objectives, i.e. reduce un-scheduled maintenance by 20 per cent, or increase production capacity by 15 per cent. In addition to quantifying the expected goals, define the methods that will be used to accomplish each objective and the means that can be used to measure the actual results.

Good maintenance programs include scheduled maintenance and a system to keep an inventory of critical maintenance parts. Every maintenance job requires a feedback mechanism based on the inspection of parts while conducting the maintenance. The maintenance schedule is subsequently changed if more frequent maintenance is required.

According to the vendor, estimated maintenance costs for a frozen barrier located on a 10-acre site with favorable soil conditions ranges from 2000 to 4000 per month. When installation is complete, it is assumed that scheduled maintenance is required D18426T, p. 2). Table 1 gives vendor-provided installation, operation and maintenance (O M), and removal costs on the basis of dollars per square foot of barrier face area ( /ft ) for frozen soil barriers of various depths (D120570, p. 27). 

Protocols for cleaning and disinfection programs vary from country to country, and often within any particular country, they will vary from state to state or province to province. In addition, the protocols vary depending on whether the disinfection procedure is part of a scheduled maintenance program or an emergency decontamination response. Commonly, however, the disinfection procedures fall into three parts. 

Regardless of the age or cost of information and hardware systems, all require some form of maintenance. Maintenance involves updating, changing, or improving the existing system. The goal is to continually improve the systems functionality and usability while minimizing the time that it is nonoperational (downtime). Ideally, information systems should require only minor or routinely scheduled maintenance. There are two kinds of maintenance or downtime scheduled... 

Good communications are critical. If there are special situations, such as hot tapping, or unique conditions in which hazardous materials cannot be easily removed (such as the accumulation of solids that cannot be dissolved away), or if the clearing procedures cannot be followed or do not exist, then key professional personnel must perform a hazards analysis and re-evaluate the situation. Personnel must not continue scheduled maintenance until safety can be guaranteed. [30]... 

Why was this different from all the other times The river water pump gland was originally lubricated with grease. About 15 years earlier, in an effort to reduce potential environmental situations, such as an occasional sheen on the river water discharge, the grease lubrication was replaced with environmentally friendly well water. Furthermore, it is believed that when a river water pump was shut down for scheduled maintenance, the motor was shut off and the well water was turned off immediately. Despite the fact that this area handled only water, we must be concerned about the impurities that can be dissolved in the water. [3]... 

Mechanical integrity procedures must be written in adequate detail to assure that the equipment receives prudent, appropriate, and periodically scheduled maintenance. It was noted above that OSHA issued a large number of citations for failure to have the written procedures.
