Lifting gear

Maintenance embraces regular inspection, periodic examination by competent persons , and repairs. Accidents may arise as a result of the lack of maintenance, during maintenance, and as a consequence of faulty maintenance. Preventive maintenance can be a legal requirement for, e.g., pressure vessels/boilers, lifting gear, power presses. A system is required for monitoring compliance witli scheduled preventive maintenance programmes, backed up by in-service inspection. Breakdown... [Pg.413]

Large molds must only be moved by approved lifting gear. The mold should have "eyes" attached of size and number to take the weight of the mold. The weight of the mold should be clearly marked on its side. Certified chains and hooks should be used. The capacity of the chain must be sufficient to take the load applied to it. [Pg.206]

The Olin cells [68] have machined steel cell bottom units with rubber-lined steel side channels and steel tops. The anode stems are sealed through individual flexible rubber sleeves and are suspended from a copper channel, which also carries the current from the flexible buses to the anodes. Olin has developed a novel system to mount and adjust the anode-cathode gaps. The U-shaped copper or aluminum bus bar, located above each row of anodes, provides support to the anode lifting gear and current to the anodes, which are bolted to it. The anodes can be adjusted manually or electronically with the remote computerized anode adjusted (RCAA) system. [Pg.403]

Equipment or structures that require special lifting gear or clearances have to receive attention from the design criteria development stage. Heavy lifts need to have a methodology developed at the conceptual... [Pg.261]

The failure of lifting gears should be considered in the design when the associated load drop can resnlt in radiation exposure inside or outside the plant, or when it can cause damage of a system important to safety. [Pg.18]

To facilitate compliance with these requirements, check lists can be used for the different items of lifting gear and tackle and the following are typical lists that apply to the various statutory requirements under this section of the Construction Regulations. [Pg.667]
