Risk analysis management program

Government regulations reqmre hazard and risk analysis as part of process safety management (PSM) programs. These are part of the process safety programs of many chemical process facilities. [Pg.2266]

A program of research has been supported for several years by the United Kingdom Health Safety Executive (HSE) to address the effects of sociotechnical factors on risk in the CPI. The initial emphasis of this work was to develop a methodology so that chemical process quantitative risk analysis (CPQRA) would take into accotmt the effects of the quality of the management factors of plant being assessed. This work has been described in a series of publications (e.g., Bellamy et al., 1990 Hurst et al., 1991 Geyer et al., 1990 and Hurst et al., 1992). [Pg.90]

Where complete containment is impractical, exhaust ventilation (preferably to a scrubber) can limit or eliminate exposure to toxic materials. The exhaust ventilation rate (velocity or volumetric rate) may be calculable for volatile liquids from spill size and vapor pressure (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Risk Management Program Guidance for Offsite Consequence Analysis, Appendix D, Equation D-l, 1999), but tests to determine concentrations in air usually would be needed for dusty processes and fugitive releases of gases. [Pg.34]

Dr. Gold has served on the Panel of Expert Reviewers for the National Toxicology Program and on the boards of the Harvard Center for Risk Analysis and the Annapolis Center she was a member of the Harvard Risk Management Group and is at present a member of the Advisory Committee to the Director, National Center for Environmental Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She is among the most frequently cited scientists in her field and was awarded the Annapolis Center Prize for risk communication. [Pg.6]

Dow s Fire and Explosion Risk Analysis Program provides a step-by-step, objective evaluation of the realistic fire, explosion, and reactivity potential of process equipment and its contents. The procedure allows calculation of the damage that would probably result from, and the areas which could be exposed to, fire or explosion generated in the process unit being evaluated. Management can then decide unit spacing needed to protect people from injury and to keep potential property and equipment damage to acceptable levels. [Pg.285]

Special models and programs are developed for such purposes as health and safety management and assessment, risk analysis and assessment, emission control and detection and quality control. Such a program may, for example, help the user to keep records regarding training, chemical inventories, emergency response plans, material safety data, sheet expiry dates and so on. [Pg.28]

The Project Manager is responsible for the implementation of the Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Programs (RMP) and must appoint a qualified hazard study leader to conduct hazards evaluations and insure that the results are incorporated into the Process Hazards Analysis and Review. [Pg.70]

Procedures for providing (when requested), by electronic an other means, a copy of the operator s risk analysis or integrity management program to OPS or their state designee. [Pg.2188]

This is the latest volume in a series on ammonia plant safety. These technical manuals give guidance on safety development, accident prevention, and efficient plant operation. Topics In Volume 32 Include risk analysis and emergency management of ammonia Installations, ammonia detectors, tank storage, safety assurance programs, and other topics in specific manufacturing operations. [Pg.134]
