Ribs structure

Quadraxially oriented (four directional layer) glass fabric-TS vinyl ester polyester RP sheet panels with a foam core and gel coating are used. Most of the panels are 3 mm thick with molded-in rib structure supports. Body skins are bonded to the chassis with a double-stick acrylic tape developed by 3M Co. as well as mechanical fasteners. Unlike most steel designs, no B-pillar structural component between the front and rear doors is required thus providing more interior space and easy entry since doors open in opposite directions. [Pg.255]

The most widely used applications reported in 1973 included rib structures in the fabrication of lightweight reinforced-plastic parts and as a core material in sandwich construction, bonded to metal, wood, or glass. Other applications are as reinforcements for aircraft-control surfaces, radome housings, fUler blocks under fuel cells, tank floats for indicating devices, and ribs, posts, and framing in houses and shelters. Due to its buoyancy characteristics cellulose acetate foam has been used in lifeboats, buoys, and other flotation devices (21). [Pg.242]

Reticulation is an after-treatment that removes residual cell membranes to produce a foam with a skeletal rib structure. Reticulated foams are very effective filters for the removal of dust and fibers from air and other gases. They allow high flow rates and low pressure gradients (i.e., minimal energy consumption). Methods of reticulation include chemical hydrolysis and the use of an explosion flame front to melt the membranes.f ... [Pg.2375]

At low and medium relative humidity of the air, the performance of the meander design is slightly superior to the rib structure as can be seen in Figure 7-13. [Pg.139]

RP blades for aircraft jet engines are being designed now by NASA, USA. They are essentially hollow with an internal rib structure. These... [Pg.72]

As designed, the RP blades are essentially hollow with an internal rib structure. These rib like vents direct, mix, and control airflow more effectively which reduces the amovmt of energy needed to turn the blades and cuts back on noise. Most engine noise actually comes fi-om wind turbulence that collides with the nacelle. By directing air out the back of the fan blades, the noise can be reduced by a factor of two. And by drawing more air into the blades, engine efficiency is improved by 20%. [Pg.585]

In another study, it was proved that a rib structure on the inside of the clothing brings a substantial improvement in the ventilation and therefore cools the inside of the clothing. The similarity laws in fluid dynamics have been used to provide a prediction of the thermod5mamic parameters in different measuring methods. By appropriate adjustment of the manufacturing process, heat-insulating properties can be achieved (Machova et al., 2006). [Pg.371]

If the flow field is not machined then other additional characteristics are necessary to describe the channel/rib structure of a flow field ... [Pg.107]

A second option is to machine the rib structure from a massive disc by water-jet cutting, ultrasonic cutting, or conventional diamond tool machining for subsequent fusion to a front plate and possibly a back plate. Especially water-jet cutting is a very flexible process with respect to cavity shape because the tool - a high-pressure water jet mixed with an abrasive - is always the same. [Pg.172]

The shield plug had to be firm enough to support the components installed on it and to keep them properly aligned with the core internals. For this reason, the plug was manufactured with a proven thick rib structure. [Pg.125]

The competition-winning design for the dome of Florence cathedral is idiosyncratic. Construction method became a central issue in the straitened circumstances of the city at war. Brunelleschi s proposal for an octagonal ribbed structure required no centering. The ribs supported a substantial lantern without undue spreading. [Pg.70]

The occipital atlantal junction was restricted in flexion and extension but symmetric and sidebending in rotation. There was tenderness along the superior nuchal line bilaterally. There was a mild thoracic and lumbar flattening with a decreased excursion of the diaphragm and rib structures on inhalation. The left first rib was restricted with the rib in the elevated position. The thoracolumbar junction was tender to palpation in the midline and bilaterally across the... [Pg.650]

The process used to make rubber separators involves mixing precipitated silica, water, and natural rubber to create a thin film. The natural rubber is received in smoked sheets or slabs, and it is normally worked in various pieces of equipment so that the silica, laden with water, can be incorporated. This rubber, silica, and water mixture is then fed to an extruder to create a thin, uniform layer that is sufficiently malleable to be fed into a calendar stack, which has grooved voids in the roll that will create the rib structure. [Pg.125]
