High pressure water jet

Pollution Prevention. Procedures haven been developed for recovery of composite ammonium perchlorate propellant from rocket motors, and the treatment of scrap and recovered propellant to reclaim ingredients. These include the use of high pressure water jets or compounds such as ammonia, which form fluids under pressure at elevated temperature, to remove the propellant from the motor, extraction of the ammonium perchlorate with solvents such as water or ammonia as a critical fluid, recrystalli2ation of the perchlorate and reuse in composite propellant or in slurry explosives or conversion to perchloric acid (166,167). 

In the second step, a papermaking method is also used for the fine fibers, less than 0.1 tex (1 den). This process is usually followed by a high pressure water jet process instead of the third step. In the fourth step, to obtain the required properties in specific appHcations, a polyurethane is selected out of the segmented polyurethanes, which comprises a polymer diol, a diisocyanate, and a chain extender (see Urethane polymers). A DMF—water bath for coagulation is also controlled to create the adequate pore stmcture in combination with fibers.

Steam is then injected into the full coke drum to remove hydrocarbon vapors, water is injected to cool the coke, and the coke is removed. Typically, high pressure water jets are used to cut the coke from the drum. 

Decoking is a routine daily occurrence accomplished by a high-pressure water jet. First the top and bottom heads of the coke drum are removed then a hole is drilled in the coke from top to hottom.. A rotating stem is lowered through the hole, spraying a jet high-pressure water sidewavs... 

Before the exchanger left the plant, the free tubes v. ere cleaned with high-pressure water jets. The plugged tubes were opened up by drilling >s-in. holes through the plugs to relieve any trapped pressure. But these holes were not big enough to allow the tubes to be cleaned. 

A man was overcome by fumes while removing residues from a tank with a high-pressure water jet. When the entry permit was issued, no one realized that fumes might be evolved when the residue was was disturbed [14]. 

Heat exchanger surfaces need to he kept clean. Aqueous circuits (evaporator or condenser) can he cleaned with a chemical such as sulphamic acid, brushed or subjected to high-pressure water jets. In each case, all traces of dirt and chemical need to be removed from the circuit before it is put back to work. In cases of doubt, the manufacturer s advice should be sought. A layer of scale 2 mm thick on a condenser tube can cause a power increase of 16%, and the need to clean a condenser can usually be deduced from the condensing pressure. Persons using high-pressure water jets should wear face masks to avoid inhaling aerosol droplets.

Bark removal also can be accomplished by use of a ring barker or hydraulic barkers which employ high-pressure water jets for bark stripping. Bark removed is collected, shredded in a hog or hammer mill, and used as fuel in steam boilers, where it contributes about 3863 kJ/kg (9000 Btu/ponnd) of dry solids. 

Based on the assumption that much of the flow restriction was due to plugging of the upgradient barrier screen, the sand in the barrier frame annulus was removed and an attempt made to flush the screen with high-pressure water jets. Additional tracer tests conducted after the jetting showed that a hydraulic restriction was still present. Since the cause of the hydraulic restriction could not be unambiguously determined or ameliorated, the decision was made to replace the 14-40 SMZ with the higher hydraulic conductivity 8-14 SMZ, and at the same time to remove the 100-mesh screen from the barrier frame. 

Finally, the most expensive of the washers which can adequately wash most of the varieties of glassware with the high pressure water jets, have certain space, installation, and purchase cost requirements which might be difficult to achieve in many laboratories. 

The coking process uses several parallel coking drums. One drum is online while the other is being emptied. At the end of the coking cycle, the coke is steamed to remove any residual oil-liquid.1214 This mixture of steam and hydrocarbons is sent to the fractionator to recover hydrocarbons. The drum is cooled with water and then drained. After the coke drum is unloaded, high-pressure water jets are used to cut away the coke from the drum. Conveyors are used to move the coke to storage. 

Raw kaolin is mainly extracted by open cast mining. Secondary deposits can be exploited using excavators, whereas primary deposits of kaolin are often washed out of the rock with a high pressure water jet.
