Four-directional

Different indices are used in hexagonal cells (we build a c.p.h. crystal up by adding bricks in four directions, not three as in cubic). We do not need them here - the crystallography books listed under Further Reading at the end of this chapter do them more than justice. 

The BBM gas consists of an arbitrary number of hard spheres (or balls) of finite diameter that collide elastically both among themselves and with any solid walls (or mirrors) that they may encounter during their motion. Starting out on some site of a two-dimensional Euclidean lattice, each ball is allowed to move only in one of four directions (see figure 6.10). The lattice spacing, d = l/ /2 (in arbitrary units), is chosen so that balls collide while occupying adjacent sites. Unit time is... 

Vants represent the one of the simplest - and therefore, most persuasive - examples of emergence of high-level structures from low-level dynamics. Discovered by Langton [lang86], vants live on a two-dimensional Euclidean lattice and come in two flavors, red and bine. Each vant c an move in any of four directions (E,W,N,S). Each lattice site is either empty or contains one of two types of food, green food or yellow food. Vants arc fundamentally solitary creatures so that there is a strict conservation of the number of vants. 

Quadraxially oriented (four directional layer) glass fabric-TS vinyl ester polyester RP sheet panels with a foam core and gel coating are used. Most of the panels are 3 mm thick with molded-in rib structure supports. Body skins are bonded to the chassis with a double-stick acrylic tape developed by 3M Co. as well as mechanical fasteners. Dendritic molecules with electroactive units at either the focal point or core have been reported [92, 97]. In a recent report [171] Newkome and He extended this concept and described the use of two ruthenium centers per appendage [—(Ru)—(x)—(Ru)—] towards construction of a four-directional dendrimer (e.g., 81, Fig. 36). A combination of convergent and divergent approaches, hence, allowed the stepwise construction of metallodendrimers via controlled metal complexation. 

The first example of a grafted dendrimer carrying non-racemic amino acid moieties at the surface has been reported in 1991 byNewkome et al. [20]. A four-directional core molecule, which they prepared from pentaerythrol [21], has been elongated with the branching units fra[carboxyethoxymethyl]amino-...

Tet This talisman, also known as Djed, represents the pillar in which Osiris body was hidden. It could be made of wood or gold. Its four capitals represent the four directions. It, therefore, can be considered a symbol of the sacred center. It is also a symbol of Osiris and of his resurrection and, therefore, Egyptians wore it to assure their own resurrection. HRC was used to treat PCE contamination at a dry cleaning facility in Florida as part of a large-scale demonstration project. One-hundred forty-four direct-push points, which were spaced 10 ft apart, were used to inject 6,800 lb of HRC.
