Controls sensitivity

During many years in Scientific Research Institutes of Nuclear Physics and Introscopy at Tomsk Polytechnical University (TPU) researches into induction electron accelerators and their uses for non-destructive radiation quality control of materials and articles have been conducted. Control sensitivity and efficiency detection experimental researches have been conducted with the high-current stereo-betatron modifications [1], and KBC-25 M and BC-50 high-current betatrons [2,3] in range of 11 MeV and 25-50 MeV radiation energy. [Pg.513]

Even conventional hotplates can be fitted with a continuously variable temperature control thanks to platinum thin-film sensors. The encapsulated platinum sensor is positioned so that it is in contact with the cast iron plate from below and thus able to register the temperature of the hotplate. Normally the power supplied to the plate is regulated by a stage switch. The increased control sensitivity is made possible by incorporating electronic circuitry capable of interpreting and acting upon the sensor signals. [Pg.120]

Al-Omran and Rose controlled the location and extent of sulfonation on poly (ary lene ether) backbones by copolymerizing 4,4 -dichlorodiphenyl sul-fone, durohydroquinone, and hydroquinone to form random copolymers, where only the hydroquinone residue would be expected to be susceptible to sulfonation by sulfuric acid. Although these authors observed sulfonation at positions other than at the desired hydroquinone locations, designing sulfonation sites into a polymer backbone remains an attractive strategy for producing copolymers with known structures. This allows the chemical structure and composition of the material to dictate the extent of sulfonation rather than trying to externally control sensitive and sometimes unpredictable macromolecu-lar sulfonation reactions. [Pg.355]

Available evidence suggests that the neurons of the dorsal horn do not have fixed functions, that their functional characteristics are modifiable, and that pathological processes can have a potent influence on them. Wall (1989) summarizes three main processes that can affect the functioning of dorsal horn cells and thus, by implication, the experience of pain gate control, sensitivity control and connectivity control. [Pg.6]

It has been suggested that botulinum toxin might have other effects on neuronal excitability. This toxin, for example, might also inhibit contraction of intrafusal muscle fibers that are located within skeletal muscle, and help control sensitivity of the stretch reflex.33 Inhibiting these intrafusal fibers would diminish activity in the afferent limb of the stretch reflex, thereby contributing to the antispasticity effects of this intervention.33... [Pg.172]

The NAA method can be divided into NAA (Instrumental NAA) and RNAA (Radiochemical NAA). In the latter, the various neutron-induced products are separated chemically to minimize interferences. There are several comprehensive review papers on INAA published in the literature 1,2,3,4). Briefly, the basic parameters controlling sensitivity for a multi-element determination are neutron flux, irradiation time, delay interval prior to counting, half-life and gamma-ray energy of the induced activity, and eflBciency and resolution of the detector. Table I outlines the irradiation parameters used for each of the two sequential irradiations. The final count occurring 40-50 days after the second irradiation is performed on an anti-coincidence-shielded Ge(Li) system developed recently in our laboratory. [Pg.256]

The mechanical properties of the various grouts that are important factors in the selection of a grout for a specific job include permanence, penetrability and strength. Similarly, the chemical properties include permanence, gel time control, sensitivity, and toxicity, and the economic factors include availability and cost. These properties are all discussed in detail in the sections that follow, using data from specific materials whenever such data will give a better understanding of chemical grouts. [Pg.160]

Many individuals have genetic susceptibility to certain chemicals (Calabrese 1978). The influence of these genetic differences likely produces sub- and supersensitivity to OP insecticides and warfare agents (Russell and Overstreet 1987). Several enzymes with variations or polymorphisms control sensitivity to OPs red blood cell acetylcholinesterase, serum cholinesterase or pseudocholinesterase, lymphocyte neuropathy target esterase or platelet neuropathy target esterase (NTE), serum paroxonase, butyrylcholinesterase, and serum arylesterase (Costa et al. 1999 LaDu 1988 Li et al. 1993 Mutch et al. 1992). Inhibition of red blood cell acetylcholinesterase, in both the central and the peripheral nervous systems, produces acute symptoms (Mutch et al. 1992). Paroxonase and arylesterase further modify the response (LaDu 1988 Li et al. 1993). Variant, inactive butyrylcho-linesterases increase sensitivity to OPs (Lockridge and Masson 2000 Schwarz et al. 1995). OP-induced delayed polyneuropathy results... [Pg.76]

A new method for using photo-electromotive force (Photo-EMF) in the detection of gas and for controlling sensitivity is proposed (Vashpanov et al., 2011). Photo-EMF on the heterojunction between the PSi thin layer and the crystalline silicon wafer depends on the concentration of ammonia in the measurement chamber. A light-transparent contact to the porous Si was formed. Photo-EMF sensitivity corresponding to the ammonia concentration in the range from 10 ppm to 1000 ppm can be controlled by the intensity of the source of illumination. [Pg.416]

As a result of this search for novel fungicides, a series of analogous phenoxyquinolines has been developed which controls sensitive and resistant strains of powdery mildew in cereals, cucurbits and grapes. The discovery and structure-activity relationships as well as the greenhouse and field efficacy of selected compounds are detailed in this report. [Pg.539]
