Scanning devices

RF Technical Physics and Automation Research Institute is ready to production and supply computer industrial tomograph, scanning devices, measuring units, soft-hardware interfaces connecting the measuring units with computer and the adapted program complexes for the industrial tomography. [Pg.601]

Rapid-Scan Corrosion Behavior Diagram (CBD) Basically, all the same equipment used in the conductance of an ASTM G5 slow-scan polarization study is used for rapid-scan CBDs (that is, a standard test cell, potentiostat, voltmeters, log converters, X-Y recorders, and electronic potential scanning devices). The differences... [Pg.2431]

Another method is to count particles between a given range and then sum the counts as in 5.9.1. Alternately, one can purcheise an automatic peurticle counting instrument for about 50-60,000. The instrument consists of a microscope, a scanning device (usually a flying-spot sceumer), a television display and a pre-programmed microprocessor. All of the particles within a... [Pg.234]

Peaks and their number are instead currently detected and measured by an integrator or scanning devices and thus are instead observable quantities. The main drawback is that they are evaluated on the basis of established threshold and resolution criteria that very often are not precise. Nonetheless, the response values, even if poorly defined, can be used to estimate m—a hidden quantity, see above—in a random retention pattern, as described below. [Pg.70]

This procedure can only be applied for a Kratky camera with zero-dimensional detector. It shows the value of this classical step-scan device for studies of scattering in absolute intensity units. [Pg.103]

An array or a matrix of nucleic acid probes immobilized at discrete locations on a silicon or glass surface provides a convenient means to simultaneously probe a sample for the presence of many different target sequences. Microarray biochip scanning devices, mostly based on fluorescent labels, are now currently available, and could also be used with CL labels to take advantage of the higher sensitivity of this detection principle. [Pg.492]

In subprograms for operating scanning devices, the primary algorithm may include a do and wait operation (for a stepper motor) or a do and look operation (for a servo system). Try to avoid problems that could arise if you move your software to a faster, newer PC. With a new PC running at a faster clock speed than an old one, the faster do operation will require a longer wait if the scanner operation is matched to the duration of do + wait. Thus, the CAM should be treated as three separate units the microscope, the interface, and the PC. The PC will become obsolete before the microscope. [Pg.138]

Unlike IR and NIR, Raman is best when used with a full-scanning device. Because the transfer of energy is so inefficient, the larger throughput of a Fourier transform (FT) device makes it the most logical instrument for the job. There are... [Pg.384]

The scanning system is a very important part of these microscopes, and is commonly composed of a cantilever whose arms are usually made of piezoelectric quartz crystal. The electric field applied by the computer to the arms of the scanning device controls the position of the tip of the sensor to within a great spatial precision. The right variation of the electric field allows the complete scanning of the sample. [Pg.549]

The experimental resolution of the apparatus depends on the dimensions of the sensor tip, the spatial accuracy of the scanning device (which is obviously better for smaller steps), and the minimum possible distance between the sample to be observed and the sensor s extremity (the smaller, the better). [Pg.550]

It is important to note that it is common in the reticulated foam industry to use air flow-through to define pore size. Manufacturers calculate average pore sizes from air flow measurements. Presumably, one would do this via a microscope either by counting pores or using an optical scanning device, but given the problems of sampling a bulk material with a microscope, it has become standard to use an empirically derived correlation between air flow and pore size. This serves as an indirect confirmation of the effect of the quality of the foam and its dynamic... [Pg.61]

Protein Adsorption. The development of medical implant polymers has stimulated interest in the use of ATR techniques for monitoring the kinetics of adsorption of proteins involved in thrombogenesis onto polymer surfaces. Such studies employ optical accessories in which an aqueous protein solution (93) or even ex - vivo whole blood (94-%) can be flowed over the surface of the internal reflection element (IRE), which may be coated with a thin layer of the experimental polymer. Modem FT-IR spectrometers are rapid - scanning devices, and hence spectra of the protein layer adsorbed onto the IRE can be computed from a series of inteiferograms recorded continuously in time, yielding ah effective time resolution of as little as 0.8 s early in the kinetic runs. Such capability is important because of the rapid changes in the composition of the adsorbed protein layers which can occur in the first several minutes (97). [Pg.15]

Microprocessor-based infrared pyrometers can be quite elaborate. Figure 8.13 shows a schematic of a scanning device which can determine the temperature of, and temperature gradients within, a large part during manufacture. [Pg.223]

CRT displays can be broken down into two categories vector and raster technologies. A vector is a line drawn from some current position to a new one. This type of display is also referred to as a "random scan" device since the pattern of painting the screen depends on the figure drawn. With raster systems, the vector is interpreted as the dots (their position) needed to draw it. In addition, raster devices paint the screen in a ordered fashion, regardless of the resulting image. [Pg.66]
