Plastics provide structurally sound, durability, and safe equipment for sports and recreation facilities. The broad range of properties available from plastics has made them part of all types of sports and recreational equipment worldwide for land, water, and airborne activities. Rollerskate wheels have become abrasion- and wear-resistant polyurethane, tennis rackets are molded from specially reinforced plastics (using glass, aramid, graphite, and/or hybrid fibers), skis are laminated with RPs, RP pole-vaults extensively used to go higher , and many more.

Fluid samples may be collected downhole at near-reservoir conditions, or at surface. Subsurface samples are more expensive to collect, since they require downhole sampling tools, but are more likely to capture a representative sample, since they are targeted at collecting a single phase fluid. A surface sample is inevitably a two phase sample which requires recombining to recreate the reservoir fluid. Both sampling techniques face the same problem of trying to capture a representative sample (i.e. the correct proportion of gas to oil) when the pressure falls below the bubble point.

Pubhc sector aquaculture involves production of aquatic animals to augment or estabUsh recreational and commercial fisheries. PubHc sector aquaculture is widely practiced in North America and to a lesser extent in other parts of the world. The FAO definition of aquaculture also indicates that farming implies ownership of the organisms being cultured, which would seem to exclude pubhc sector aquaculture. 

Animal aquaculture is concentrated on finfish, moUuscs, and cmstaceans. Sponges, echinoderms, tunicates, turtles, frogs, and alligators are being cultured, but production is insignificant in comparison with the three principal groups. Common and scientific names of many of the species of the finfish, moUuscs, and cmstaceans currently under culture are presented in Table 2. Included are examples of bait, recreational, and food animals. 

The stocking of ponds, lakes, and reservoirs to increase the production of desirable fishes that depend on natural productivity for their food supply and are ultimately captured by recreational fishermen or for subsistence is another example of extensive aquaculture. Some would consider such practices as lying outside of the realm of aquaculture, but since the practice involves human intervention and often employs fishes produced in hatcheries, recreational or subsistence level stocking is associated with, if not a part of aquaculture. Similarly, stocking new ponds or water bodies which have been drained or poisoned to eliminate undesirable species prior to restocking, can lead to increased production of desirable species.

The hand lay-up or spray-up process, used universally for the production of laminar composites incorporating glass fiber reinforcement, is most efficient for the manufacture of large parts, such as boats, bathtubs, tanks, architectural shapes, and recreational accessories. Resins intended for spray-up processes are usually modified with thixotropic additives, such as fumed siHca (1%), to reduce the risk of drainage when appHed over large vertical mold surfaces. Molds are also made from ERP for short-mn products usually surfaced with a tooling gel coat to provide consistent surface quaHty and appearance. 

Composites. High molecular weight PPS can be combiaed with long (0.6 cm to continuous) fiber to produce advanced composite materials (131). Such materials having PPS as the polymer matrix have been developed by usiag a variety of reinforcements, including glass, carbon, and Kevlar fibers as mat, fabric, and unidirectional reinforcements. Thermoplastic composites based on PPS have found application ia the aircraft, aerospace, automotive, appliance, and recreation markets (see Composite materials, polymer-matrix).
