Personnel performing examinations other than visual shall be qualified in accordance with applicable portions of SNT TC-IA, Recommended Practice for Nondestructive Testing Personnel Qualification and Ceitification. Procedures shall be qualified as required in Par. T-150, Art. 1, Sec. Vof the ASME Code. Limitations on imperfections shall be in accordance with the engineering design but shall at least meet the requirements of the code (see Tables 10-58 and 10-59) for the specific type of examination. Repairs shall be made as applicable.

The standard requires the supplier to provide for the training of all personnel performing activities affecting quality. The supplementary requirement requires provision of on-the-job training for personnel (including contractors) in any new or modified job affecting quality. 

Copies of the certificate should be retained on file as evidence of training. You may find it useful to issue each individual with a personal training log, but do not rely on this being maintained or retained by the person. Often training records are held at some distance away from an individual s place of work and in certain cases, especially for certificated personnel performing special processes, individuals should carry some identification of their proficiency so as to avoid conflict if challenged.

It is important that experienced and knowledgeable personnel perform the assessment. Afire risk assessment should be performed by a fire protection engineer who can apply common sense, understand if the results are realistic, and transfer the results into a performance-based approach to fire protection. 

The service company should be able to provide evidence that personnel performing design, installation, and maintenance are qualified to perform the work.

It is important that the outside service company meet the facility pre-qualification criteria. Figures 17.10 and 17.11 illustrate the color and severity of ABS formation and fouling. This is an SCR on a refinery heater. The ABS precipitated on the edge of the access door probably due to cooler temperatures created because of a seal leak. The interior side and top edges of the door showed ABS corrosion once the maintenance personnel performed their inspection. If the seal problem went uncorrected, eventually ABS would have destroyed the door requiring it to be replaced.

Materials in the ADME/Tox screening process relate mainly to consumables (plastic ware, tips, plates, reagents, etc.) and the raw materials the tests will be performed on, which are plates with compounds and cells. To simplify the analysis, it is assumed that access to consumables is not a major issue, since these supplies can easily be ordered through the supply chain and are generally available to the personnel performing the test assays (Figures 1.4 to 1.7). 

If SOPs are to provide guidance to study personnel on accepted methods for the conduct of routine study procedures, it follows that they must be readily available to the personnel performing those activities. The SOPs should be available in or near the room in which the activities wiU occur. The requirement for immediately available SOPs is not met if an employee must travel some distance in order to consult the SOP manual. In such a case the employee is more likely to guess, and perhaps guess wrongly, about the proper method for study conduct.
